HI, I understand this is a sensitive issue for security but please help guide me I don't mind paying but the dealer in my country has proven useless.
I have a 463 96 with only 60,000kms and in perfect shape, was driving beautifully, originally was owned by the previous owner of the dealership and has always been serviced there, thousands and thousands of dollars spent.
I got it with one key working so I ordered a third key ($650) 6 months ago and still nothing.
Now the second key stopped working. Both keys open and close the car with the remote but I get the blinking red and green and can not start the card. Have tried everything found in the forum with no success.
Can someone give me a suggestion? will this car ever run again? What does one do when the only rep in his country is basically useless?

Welcome to BW Gonzalo,
You've posted in the General Forum.

The forum index is organized / grouped according to chassis designation, usually a letter followed by 3 digits / numbers, and sections cover all engine / versions the chassis came with.

To find the forum section = chassis for your car, please click FIND YOUR FORUM SECTION

Moving you to the G-Class forum.

Which model is it exactly? I can remove the immobilizer on the G300, but not the G320. The symptoms you are describing are becoming more frequent with the G300 ECUs. The ECU can be fixed by replacing some parts in the ECU and reflashing to newer firmware. I've repaired over 20 now.

Unfortunately is a G320 , Am I going to have to change ECU and the unlocking module? Can I even get this from Mercedes? I've been told they are not even making the keys anymore! It is a beautiful looking car and in great condition but at the moment a very heavy decoration for my garage and nothing else ......

G320. Can't help you much with that model.
You say this is a 1996. That is a transition model where they moved from very simple electronics to a pretty sophisticated immobilizer that is in software. If you have an instrument cluster that looks like this, then you have the newer electronics:
Speedometer Vehicle Odometer Trip computer Tachometer

It you have the earlier model. Sorry, I know nothing about it.

If you have the newer model. Things to verify:
1) the ECU is getting power directly, and from the K40 relay.
2) the ring around the key hole is good and the wire to the key reader is unbroken.
3) the CAN bus signals are getting to the key reader and the ECU.

Your vehicle has DAS stage 2 immobilizer found in most MB's from that era. W124 to W463. Keys are no longer available. Only way to access any faults or live data is HHT or DAS setup with HHT-WIN emulator.

Agreed, I think the security is DAS2a to be specific.

When you ordered the third key, did the dealership program the key into the ECU? This is a necessary step.
Also, if they can program the key in, then the ECU is at least minimally working.

On the G300 (same general era, also DAS2a, but diesel), the failure mode is that a memory chip in the ECU fails. It forgets the key codes that are allowed to start the car. Unfortunately, once the 1's and 0's are scrambled there is no easy way to recover the values. The chip needs to be replaced with the settings of a "virgin ECU", then ECU needs to be recoded with new keys.

No to finish a fantastic few days my Carrera is starting to show the same sympthoms, what are the chances?

One thing to keep in mind. When start attempt is made ECU writes new rolling code in the key. If battery is low or opens up during start new code is never written or is incomplete. That's what renders a lot of keys useless.
There is a gizmo that will check if there is any interaction between the key and immo ring.

Not with DAS2a. The immobilizer part of the key is a fairly simple RFID device. It is energized by the reader ring and spits out a single code. The IR lock/unlock is a rolling code. However this is transmitted and incremented by the key only. The IR receiver can be resynchronized to the rolling code by pressing the key's button twice in quick succession and then inserting it into the ignition and turning to position 2.
