OK...I've looked all over these forums and don't see a straight answer, so I'll ask a straight question.

I've got an '02 SLK320 and I want to put the SL antenna mast on it. I just want to know if I want the mast from an R230 or R129.

Can I just change to the stubby mast or do I need to change the actual antenna connector as well?

Help me...my brain has fallen and it can't get up.

Thank you in advance

If you are referring to the antenna that looks like the stock SLK with the flexible part cut off, then there is an SLK version that is just screwed in place of the stock mast. That is the European version of the antenna. You can order it online, or possibly from a Mercedes parts department.

A word of warning, if you live even remotely far from the source you will notice a significant decrease in signal. I live 30 minutes outside SF and I lost half of my stations. I ended up reverting to the stock antenna.

I have been involved in the antenna discussion on and off for a while and I guess I dont know. We have always just said it was an SL antenna, I don't know if it is an R129 or an R230.

Ok, after some further research, I think it is the R230 (http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r170-slk-class/1226153-f-s-sl-r230-antenna-top.html?highlight=antenna). I bought one of those from 560se (his new name is OJwerks, send him a PM).

You only need the tip, it will screw onto the base we have. The only issue I have with it is our base is a flat black rubber and the SL stubby antenna is color coded. You can either match your body color or get black, but if you get black it will be glossy. Some folks get the tip to match their body color and then have the current base painted to match.

There is also some more info in this thread: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r170-slk-class/1236932-antennas.html?highlight=antenna

Good luck.

I have the shorty antenna and I too live ~30 miles outside of San Francisco in the North (East) Bay, Benicia and work in Berkeley with a view of SF and the Bay out my office window. The shorty picks up all my preset stations (~4AM, 7FM stattions), ONCE I am halfway to work down I-80 to Berkeley. But in Benicia I only get 1 FM and 2 FM stations. On a trip outside of close to SF, I just screw back on the stock antenna.

The shorty makes it a lot easier to put on the car cover, I don't have to line up the antenna with the car cover hole.

I ordered the Euro-antenna from my Stealership today for $56. Not horrible and should only take 4 days to get.

Thanx falcon for those other posts...they did the trick. Now if my grille and wind deflectors would get here....

Roof Commander gets installed on Tuesday.
