For the illuminated sills that say, "Mercedes-Benz", there seems to be a difference b....

the aftermarket and the MBUSA version.

The aftermarket seems to replace both the metal strip and the long black plastic cover that goes lengthwise across the sill with an all chrome piece, whereas the MBUSA version seems to just be a replacement of the metal strip.

Can anyone confirm this difference? I haven't seen either in person and I am inferring this all based on pictures.
MBUSA version: http://www.mbusa.com/byo/popups/image/CLK55C/B66890026.jpg

Aftermarket version:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=601924389

MBUSA is selling the illuminated door sill that says, 'Mercedes-Benz' for $369 and I've seen the aftermarket sell for $190 on eBay.

Also, do the aftermarket ones come in your choice of three colors like the MBUSA version or do they just come in blue?

Yes, you're right, Shah. Aftermarket ones only come in blue.

I've had this on my SLK also and it's the same thing. The entire sill is covered with the entire aluminum sill.

Look at my pics: http://home.earthlink.net/~lifeisshort/IntAcc

Theoretically, you could buy the yellow or green lights from M-B...

and use the factory lights with the aftermarket sills (you'd have to swap connectors). However, the factory lights cost $200/set (ouch!). There IS a differenc, though. The factory lights are laminated with a hard plastic and they are fairly rigid. The aftermarket lights are really flexible and therefor easier to damage during installation.
Talk to Jerry at MyRoadster.net...the items are black birdseye maple matched with the interior.

Aftermarket lights are laminated also but probably not as rigid as MB's...

They won't get damaged during installation unless the installer step on, bend, or fold them.
