Thank you merc s500!!! I did everything!!!:(:(:(
OK, here's a little update: I pulled out (disconnected) the whole ignition switch assembly, and the key goes easily in to any positions now! (1,2 and start):D , but as soon as I put the the whole ignition switch assembly back in to his place-same thing happens again!!!:mad::crybaby2::crybaby2: (the key will not turn no matter what I do. Cannot get to position 1,2 ....) . pulled out- key goes easily in to any positions!!!
So, I think the problem is in steering lock mechanism, coz I try to turn it with a screwdriver with no luck anda steering wheel still locked!!!
need help ASAP,ASAP,ASAP!!!:surrender::surrender::surrender:

On the 140's there is an extra cable that goes all the way to the transmission wich is connected to the steering lock , maybe that is stuck down there somehow .Watch the short video below and check on that pin coming out on the end ,the one he's pointing at ,just that the 140 has a cable there i think instead ,i'm not familiar with the locks much ,sry i cant be more of help here only hinting out .Since the key works when you got it all apart maybe there is an obstruction or prevention behind the dashboard where the mechanism goes into ,the pins maybe have an obstruction on the sides where they cant open into to when you turn the key ,make sure that you check behind that hole with a torch .
Was the Steering in steering lock mode ,if YES ,have you try'd to put extra force to loosen it & turning the key ?,dont worry you cant make it worst then what it is already but sometimes that's just whats it is ,it seams strange that you can remove all the asembly there with the steering lock engaged ,weird .

ISS ,i had to re read your problem slowly & i'm coming to the simple conclusion ,to say " putt everything back the way it was & then " USE YOUR MUSCLES TO LOOSEN / FREE THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK by turning the steering wheel left ( i think,on mine that is )" ,i had that as well once ,that was the problem ,to scared to brake something ,i know how you treat your car ,well today is that day to hurt her a little.

WOOOOOOOOOOW ,ISS , what would i give to be there with you to fix this problem up .While you fixing that might as well stick a new Evaporator in there as well ,lol .
When i come back later i will take a long internet search & see what i can find , did you try to force the steering with a lot of force to the left while at the same time turning the key ? .
Catch you later on ........ ,,,,,,,,,,,,to be continued.

I got mine unlocked after taking a long screwdriver and taping it with a hammer then while I pulled the wheel to the left I had a friend turn my spare key with some pliers, and she started right up and finally got her home at 11pm, I hope I never go through that again.

The most important thing at this point is to remove the lock from the column. Once the loch has " locked" ( if for example the position of the connection to the thumbler has moved) you will be in DEEP trouble as you probably will have to cut of the lock assembly which is, you guessed it, hardened steel.

So remove the 10 mm nut from the security pin and push out the key from below. If you can't then ....

I ALWAYS remove the pin for ANY work on the steering lock assembly although it's a little bit tricky to get the pin back in place (a small magnet works).

I hope it's not locked. If you feel the slightest resistance when operating your key, get immediatly the little can of oil MB specfifies. Don't use anything else like WD40. This can work wonders. If not, get a new key from MB and see if this improves. If not change thumbler. There are no short-cuts to this, when it fails you might be stuck at any given point with the additional extra that you might be unable to remove the keys.

Changing the lock assembly is a couple of hundred dollars, but that is peanuts compared to have the lock blocked which is a dash - out operation cutting heavy-duty steel in a pretty confined space

Good luck

Heh!!!:mad: There is what actually happened to me:mad::mad::mad: (I'm in DEEPER than deep trouble):D
Is there any way to pull the column out and cut it outside the car.

Update

Update!!! I think this night I'm gonna sleep like a baby!!! :D I was able to unlock the steering column and pull it out the steering blocking device!:D ( I'm found online how to do it ) , and I don't know if it is is legal to put this info online or not, so let me know, and if yes, than i will do!!!
P.S. Any way I'm going to cut a piece on pics.8 (mark in red) and after that put the steering lock back in to place(steering column)!!! So in this case, my steering will never ever locked again.

P.S. don't forget to look at all the pictures LOL!!!
 to be continued
did you do the trick with drilling teo holes ? I was going suggest this to you per PM.

The "key" is to always remove the lock pin first before doing any work on the assembly.

Driving a car without the lock might have some serious impacts on insurance and personal liabiity (someone steals your car because itbwas easy giving the missing lock and kills three people in an accident) Certainly an interesting case for lawyers and the outcome will depend on the country - but I would prefer not to find out.

When driving an S class it seems that such minor faults should be fixed without hesitating, or, dare it I tomsay it, you might be driving the wrong car
