92 400E. New ignition about 2 months ago. Car mysteriously stops running. Fuses all good new EPM this week. Pull out new switch both the 30 pins are melted and the switch does not have distinct clicks. Once to what I would say is start #3, it sounds and feels like grinding before bottoming out. Pins are battery and starter? Wondering where to begin looking for why the melting could be caused?

That is the power supply module which also controls the AC compressor. It's known as the BM or GM (Basic Module or General Module).

So does it control power to the switch? What might cause the melting on the ignition switch?

No. The BM/GM is only for the engine management computers.

The ignition switch power is totally separate. You can find schematics in the FSM in the Electrical Troubleshooting Manual (ETM) section.
