While sitting in the drivers seat going thru the glove box I observed the original bill of sale from the MB dealer. Also a invoice from a service visit at 1100 miles. Wow. $61,500
Had the owners name and a phone number.
Hopefully that means its a 1 owner vehicle. Right?
Okay....if I called that MB service dept. Would they give me any info on the service history?

it all depends...because if it was sold and 2nd owner did not visit the MB dealership (same one) than you cant be for certain... but you can and try call all the dealerships in your city

If you're @ MB of Manhattan...

It's a "Company Owned" dealership (That's Stuttgart to youse and Me)
It all depends, some dealers carry the Company line:
"That's the Previous Owner's personal information" [And we ain't tellin you squat]
Two or three reasons:
1.Less chance of ANY legal/liability troubles for the dealer.
2.if you can't find out the vehicles history...The dealer can sell you stuff that may have
"Just been Fixed".
3.MB in Montvale frowns on divulging ANY info.

Ask the dealer to pull a CarFax report. That will tell you how many owners it has had.
I just figured 1 owner, who would buy a used vehicle and keep the previous owners information and or reciepts in the car.
But i will definitely ask for the Carfax.
I thought reaching out to the previous owners would be a little invasive and spooky.

Thanks Texfinn

I emailed the prior owner of my car and he was quite happy to respond. I was hoping he had a spare key (no dice) but he did tell me that his wife was a zealot about going for scheduled maintenance, which i knew already because my dealership was kind enough to pull the service history on the car for me. Good luck.

Play safe with your hard earned money. Subscribe to carfax or autocheck to get the historical report of the used car that you want to buy. Most reports include number of previous owners, accidents, title/lien, possible odometer rollback, service records, ...

Thanks Alexnatt. I was starting to think that the RWDs were sour or something. The way the board loves the 4matics so much.
I drove a 01 RWD the other day with 145k and it drove better than my 07 Rclass. I started to hand over the cash right there. Only thing that stopped me was the small dent in the front fender and the rust spots.

I may have to settle for a high mileage 210 wagon.....or some rust. lol

They still do the
"Forgotten price sticker in glove-box" trick??? :big laugh:
It is illegal for dealer to leave PO personal info in the car.
4-Matic is nice, but cost more, while the traction control in 2WD works for most of the owners (I turn it off going on slippery roads to ski resort)
I sold 4-Matic to get diesel, since the diesel wagons 4 Matics never made it to this side
