Dear friends,

I need your help.

I found this 94 w124 e300td automatic station wagon (OM606 - 340.000km) very cheap and almost perfect, the car was imported from germany to portugal in 2004.
Too good to be true, isn't it?

Why so cheap?
I took it to a mechanic and everything looked just fine.
I bought it.
Tried it and everything was perfect, very confortable, smooth and powerful
until I discovered that is consuming almost 15 L at 100km in the city and about 12 on the road.
I love everything on this car but this consumption, at the this context, with diesel getting more and more expensive every week its a big issue.
At the moment I'm not sure what to do, if I invest to discover and resolve this problem or if I just try to get rid of it.

Whats your opinion on all this?
What can be the causes of this wild consumption?

Thanks for your attention.

Injectors, pump timing. Check your boost as well if its a turbo, your right foot might be overcompensating.

It's a normally aspirated OM606. I'd make sure the thermostat is working correctly, and then check chain stretch, injection timing, and whether the resonance flaps are working as they should. This car should return excellent fuel mileage, at or near 30mpg.
