My 1984 280 GE Gelandewagen is for sale and available in Lone Tree(Denver) Colorado.
I have owned this truck since 1990, about 5 years after she was imported from Germany.
This truck was new over $100,000 and very desirable back in those days. And still is very desirable.
You can find a few 8 cylinder models in the 2-door version from '02 but they are still $90K or more and very rare.
My 280 GE is the 2 door version with the unbeatable M110 double overhead cam six cylinder engine with the rare 5-speed, Air conditioning and the larger 15" wheels. I bought this truck with 17k Mls in 1990 out of UTAH and now have only 72k Mls on the odometer. She has been used sporadically her in Colorado but she was mostly parked in our warehouse with other cars.
We have repainted the 280 GE several years ago and she got the upgraded steering shocks that the earlier W-460 versions needed.
This truck is possibly the best 4x4 truck ever build and very capable off road and in the snow. You can drive a G-Wagen for the fraction of a 4-door version with a lot less maintenance and all along being very unique driving a 2-door hard top.
I am looking to sell the truck for $21,500 and am willing to take trade inn's if so desired.

price in 1984

Stephan,

just to set the record straight - a brand new 280GE swb was around $25,000 in 1984 (here in the US I mind you) - and that included shipping, taxes and conversion.

Not from Europa Int'l. It was about 2-3X that amount through them.

$20,000 for an '84 280. I wonder what an '87 300TGD would go for...

I told my wife I would sell it if someone offered $25K, thinking it wouldn't happen. I made that promise after losing a bet... should I be slightly worried?

eventually you might find someone willing to part with that much money
considering that you can own a much more trouble free 2000 or later G500 for less - $25k for a 20+ years old anemic rattle box is only for the true diesel enthusiast

don't get me wrong - I loved my 1986 300GD (bought it for less than $20k new and sold it for $25k after 13 years) but my '02 G500 is so much better for comparatively less money

its like that girlfriend you loved 30 years ago - it was all true back then
but the planet has done a few revolutions since then
