I say dont lower it .. get a lift and put on the BFG 285-55-20 All Terrains !! Now that would be awesome. They will be my next tire along with these wheels:

MLOffRoad,

I'm just curious, but why do you want to put All-Terrains on a 20" wheel. That's kinda like wearing silk dress socks with hiking boots (yeah, its a shitty analogy [:p]). If I were you I'd get smaller wheels with mudders for off roading, and put some good street tires on the 20's.

clb0099,

This size: 295/40-20 will be about the same overall diameter as the stock tires.

I would only do it because it is very uncommon ... then again when is the last time you saw a ML with AMG's and BFG AT's.

I think I'm going to rethink the whole 20 inchers.

Toyo makes the Proxes S/T in a 295/45/20.

All of the reports I have seen of people who lower their ML say that the ride comfort suffered significantly. If you absolutely must lower your ML, just go with the ML 55 rear springs. They are only about 1/2 shorter, but they offer a better ride than the other options. Or, you can do a custom air suspension system[:D]

ok i am not lowering the truck... i have right now 295/40/20... the tire is low profile which i do not want at all ... so if i have to lose the width then fine. i am trying to get away from a low profile look ... again i am not going to lower my truck ...

In that case, you neet to go to the original wheels, and get a tire with a little more sidewall. IF you try this with a 20" wheel, even if it physically fits, your truck will not work right.( Esp, speedometer,etc..). You can not use a +3 wheel and expect anything less than a lower profile tire to compensate. that's the whole issue here.
If you want a bigger tire, you must go back to the smaller wheels. Or did you forget you had a truck? LoL just kidding.
You'll fid a lot more options in the16" 17" range that 20".I don't even think there is such a thing as a 20" regular tire that applies to your vehicle..

Good Luck..

O.K., so now you are saying that you don't want a 45 tire. Which is it? In your previous post you said 45, 50, or 55.

You can also get the Toyo in a 255/50/20. This size is just above the 3% rule (i.e. it is recommended that you keep the overall diameter to within 3% of the OEM size. You can comare sizes at:
http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

As was previously stated, a 20 inch rim is not conducive to a large sidewall tire.

Also, you need to compare tires. You can get the exact same size tire in two different brands and have noticabley different ride qualities. The Michelin X-Terrain is considered a good all around tire with good ride characteristics. The Toyo is also considered a good tire, but not for snow.

Use the search feature to see what others have to say about different tires.

ok.. people i got new tires on my ml...i went from 295/40/20 to 295/45/20... not much of difference in sizes but it feels laot better handling.. i bought the tires from tire rack. As opposed to going to motorsports 46 or action tire both which on rt46 in nj. Both them quote prices of 1300 for 4 tires. i paid 620 with shipping even after i put them on it came out to 700 for everything. Talk about trying to rape someone.
