Hey team,
this is a strange one, am trying to nail down an issue in the hvac system.

The first thing I noticed was no cold air from the ac anywhere ever. I only get ambient air from the two side vents with ac on lo and fan on high. As I still have a very small leak, I toped off the Freon and all refrigerant components seem to be working properly.

Next I noticed that air was blowing from the side vents only, so I ran the vent door test and found all responding as tested.

Now I turn on the heat and get air at the correct heat temperature but again only from the 2 side vents. Switching floor, side, top had no effect, only defroster changed the air from the sides only.

I switched out the head unit and still have the same issue.

Im at a loss on this one
Before I go into this system, any ideas??

SO I noticed the refrig level (3) was low so I put on gauges and
they both went to 56 and did not move as the compressor cycled on and off
may be several issues Huh?

Yeah you have the refrigerant level low. Should be about 5 or 6 bars. You have 3. It is almost empty (liquid refrigerant wise).

The compressor will not switch on because your outside temperature gauge is bad. It thinks it is frozen out there, and the system will not start the compressor even if you have refrigerant in the system. The system needs the outside temperature at least 37 degrees F for the compressor to start. So technically, your system is in "heating" mode (blowing from the side vents, not from the center vents), but no hot air is coming out as you set the temperature lower than the cabin temperature of 80 degrees F.

Clear the codes and see which ones come back.

Also the system complains that the coolant sensor reading is bad. It could just be an intermittent code, if the coolant temp matches what you see in the inst. cluster.

HAUNTED --- ok I changed sensors, cleared codes, and it started working again,,,,,, for about an hour.
then the air gets warm again and the vents go back to side vents only.
then I check codes and there are none, and the system starts working again, for about an hour when again the air gets warm and vents go to sides only.
ideas?

Read and post the sensor values when the system works.
Then
Read and post sensor values when the system is blowing warm air.

What sensors did you change, and did you put any refrigerant in the system ?

Your evap temp sensor seems to be reading 10 -15 degrees F lower. This may be the reason why it is cutting off after sometime.

WOW - FIXED
So as a last resort I decided to evacuate and recharged the ac system.
But be fore doing that I had to repair the leak I have had for 17 years.
Replaced the condenser coil dyer and while I had it open the compressor and evaporator valve
and the system came back and works perfect
I assume that after putting some 20 cans of freon in the system there was air in the dryer
anyway its fixed and the ghosts had to find a new home
many thanks forum
