Hi,

2003 ML55 AMG.

My parktronic system does not work. It never turns on, and if I turn it on, it will show up with 2 red diodes and a loud beep, and go out after a few seconds. (both front and rear)

I have searched the forum, but unable to find a way to troubleshoot what exactly is wrong.

1) If it is too many sensors going bad, how can I find out which?
2) If it is a relay, where is it located precisely? All fuses under hood and in foot-well are good.
3) Any other things I can do to diagnose the exact problem except going to dealership?

I had the back bumper off the other day anyway, but no visible damage or snagged wires noticed.

Thanks

one damaged sensor is enough to cause these symptoms.

you can test the system using star ds, i don't think car soft will do the job.
it will tell you exactly what sensor needs to be replaced.

Thank you so much for the response. Excuse the perhaps stupid question, but what is "star ds"?

Is this a specific reader?

I love my benz, but I have never encountered so many "small" issues in a car EVER. I still love it though

Thanks again. I would really like to have this fixed. It is part of a long list of small nagging issues I have.

Hello AMG4FUN,

I believe the 'DS' is a reference to the Star Diagnostics System (high end computer) commonly used by Mercedes dealers to diagnose all sorts of problems with the SUV.

It reaches the parts the ordinary OBDII code reader does not such as transmission, body hardware, AAM etc.

A proper expert will be along shortly to further elucidate I'm sure.

Enjoy the AMG!

SDS - Star Diagnosis Software
(sorry about the confusion)
is what every MB dealer uses, updated regularly.
some people do have old versions that can access parktronic.

again, i don't think Car Soft Software will do the trick.

dealer was the only way for me to find out which sensor was damaged.
i just paid the dealer for the diagnostic - some dealers will do it for free.
bought a sensor and replaced it myself.

I vdon't have any experience with MB parktronic, but with some other brands if they are dirty they can give false readings or just make the system show an error. Are your sensors clean?

Thanks for the clarification. I might just bite the bullet and see good 'ol dealership....

all sensors are clean.

I did read another place that diagnostics can be done by listening to the sensors when they are engaged.

see http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w140-s-class/1650188-pts-diy.html

Granted, it is not the same class, but I think the sensors work the same way?
