How to replace cracked fog lamp lense?

7665 Views 5 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  JIME
I have a "99" CLK320, my driver side Fog Lamp lense cracked and I just purchased a new lense from my local M/B dealer... The parts manager said just pop the old one out and place the new one in... Just one question... how the heck do you get the fog lamp out to replace the lense... I looked in the front... no screws or bolts... and no access under the front... help...[xx(]

Another question... Is that fake air intake directly next to the fog light the access to the fog light assembly?[?]
What about that fake air intake next to the fog light?
Wouldn't it be easier to access the fog light from this point rather than removing the inner fender liner or front bumper just to replace a fog lamp lense?[?]
That's what I would think... There is a removable plastic cover just underneath the fog light assembly... from what I can see, it appears that it would be a lot less work to remove this part than to remove the front wheel and inner fender... Of course, I haven't tried it yet, so I'm just guessing...[?] It appears as though once again, the car is a bit over engineered...

"You will need to remove the tire and well fender plastic liner to access to the whole foglight assembly. Or you can remove the front bumper completely from car. Btw, the CLK 430 foglight len are non-replaceable. You have to buy the whole foglight assembly."

HAhHAahaha...

You ever hear the one... How many Po#$cks does in take to screw in a lightbulb? One to hold the lightbulb and fourteen to turn the house...

Well, I just did remove and replace the foglight lense and it is a rather simple process...

1) Jack up the side of the car where the lense is located and make sure to place a jack stand as a safety measure...

2) Remove the four screws holding the access panel directly below the fog light, then drop the plastic panel...

3) You now can see the foglight assembly... on the left and right are two 8mm machine screws holding the fog light to the bumper... remove each screw and the fog light will drop right down...

4) Once you have the assembly in hand there are three spring clips holding the lense to the assembly... pop the three clips and the lense falls out into your hand... be careful these are made of glass...

5 Place the new lense in, pop your three clips back on and screw everything back together...

Thats it folks...[:D]
