Hello all, I have 1997 E-420 W-210. Some one kicked and cracked the molding in my rear bumper. I want to remove the bumper and then molding to fix the problem.

Does any one point me to DIY or WIS information on how to remove the rear bumper.

See attached PDF for more information on Rear Bumper.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Remove the trunk plastic liner and there are 4 bolts on the rear panel inside close to the trunk floor. Once you remove those bolts, whole bumper will slide out from the side brackets. Inner fenders might have to flex to let it go.
Depends of the model you might have telephone antenna cable attached to it.
How much easier that can get?

Not quite only 3 bolts. Side brackets hold lot of bumper weight.
I see where I made the mistake. There are 4 bolts holding the trim on the bumper.
Still removal takes just minutes. Actually trunk molding takes longer with all those plastic pegs, than the bumper alone. I was able to reinstall bumper on the brackets alone, but a hand is really advisable.

I found all 3 bolts. I will remove the rear bumper this weekend.

One more question, I notice that there is some kind of cable or tube running along inside part of rear bumper from driver side to passenger side.

Please note I don't have parktronic sensors in my car rear bumper.

Any one know what this cable run in rear bumper for?

Thanks. I got it. Do you know when I pull the bumper out, do I need to disconnect this cable from some sort of Antenna reciever? Any detail or explanation will be greatly appreciated.

See attached for Antenna cable in bumper.

Looks like on the picture the cable is already cut off. I pulled mine out of the grommet and reinserted it just for fun of it, but chances you will ever need the antenna are next to nothing.
The end of the cable was attached somewhere in driver fender area on trunk side.
