Check paulhdick's website for the third row retrofit instructions. It contains information about removing and installing the D-pillar.

orlando,
you will have to break the old one and carefully taking off, the glue that they used is very tough, then clean the rest of the glue and install the new one, take your time to align the gap on all the side, because once that thing stick its very hard to comes off.

The D-pillar trim is attached with a urethane adhesive, the same thing they use to install windshields. You may be able to buy a tube at a hardware or auto supply store, but you may be better off just getting a glass company to install it for you. I doubt they would charge more than $30 for the job.

Most of my window trim on our 2002 looks terrible---even after replacing it once under warranty. The plastic pieces refernced here--same deal. And I'm told that to replace all the black plastic around all the windows side and rear will run close to $1200 !

I assume my issue isn't unique--but has anyone come up with any refinishing/restoration solutions?

Thanks

The rubber trim around my side windows looks a bit chalky, mostly from wax getting on it. I’ve tried several things to dress it, but the best thing is actually peanut butter (creamy style, not chunky). The peanut paste helps remove wax and oxidation, and the oils help nourish the rubber, plus you get to enjoy that great peanutty smell getting in and out of the ML!:D

As for the D-pillar trim, I had both of mine replaced under warranty due to the clear coat peeling. In both cases, it started at the very top of the trim piece and began to peel in very small pea-sized sections. Once it started, though, it really deteriorated quickly. If it does it again now that I’m far out of warranty, I’ll probably just get a body shop to re-coat it.
