How to check Auto transmission fluid?

11756 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Ben09
Hi

I have a 2007 A180CDI Auto. I love my car, but I get a message on the dash..."Transmission Fault Workshop"

I thought I would check that the transmission fluid was at a good level, because I really cannot afford to take the car into a workshop to be repaired, especially if they want to replace the gearbox.

Can someone please tell me how to find the correct place to check the fluid levels, and how to go about it?

Thanks in advance :)

The ATF fluid has to be checked with every service ie every 15,000km. Coolant has to be added at a ration of 70%water to 30% coolant to the radiator. After learning this to my detriment (car out of warranty and didn't even know about ATF fluid needing to be topped up or changed, thanks to mechanic for not knowing either or failing to mention it). I am not even using MB approved oils, but Ravenol products instead, which are 100% synthetic and therefore the correct thing to use for a CVT gearbox. Hope this helps a bit.
Bert Rowe's-Mercedes-Benz 'A'-class info. Mercedes Benz A Class W168 Automatic Transmission /gearbox, Changing Automatic Gearbox fluid on Mercedes- Benz 'A' Class - for an A168 not an A169, but it gives you some idea.
