Hello!

I just added navigation into my 2006 ML350 benz, everything is working fine, but after I took my car to the local dealer in order to activate the instrument cluster to show the directions and NAVI screen. The dealer says it is NOT doable and it seems he couldnt do it.

any cluse? or any guide to help the tech at dealer site to work on it?
it seems he doesnt know how to do it!

I don't understand. Assuming you installed an OEM NAV unit, anyone with the MB Star system should be able to do it. I added a CD changer to mine and that was a quick fix at the dealer using the Star.

I dont understand it either. I thought it is a quick fix as well with his MB star star system.
He said he didnt do it before. I live in a small town and I think the technician at the MB dealer here is ridiculously unskilled.

any hints or instuctions should i know to pass it to him?

Yes......it should........

Are you saying it should display stuff on the Screen where the Cluster is????

-Joe
After my rep received the code and gave the info to the tech., he imputed the code and the navigation info was present on the MFD, where the cluster is....It can be done...

I performed an upgrade from the COMAND APS to the COMAND NTG 2.5 on my 2007 ML
I recoded the instrument cluster to allow for the navigation screen, and it worked fine and is still working.

In order for the Instrument Cluster to be aligned with the Navi installed, there are two options:

1. SCN coding--Software Calibration Number, which is a code obtained through MB mainframe (Germany) in order to recode a control unit (the Instrument cluster being one). Without the SCN, recoding is impossible, even just to change the code on the field "NAVI" to "present"!
2. to "force" the recoding of the control unit with a Star Diagnosis system in developer mode. The control unit will work as coded, and the MB mainframe will not "record", if you will, the change in the coding in your car. This devleoper kit is not available in most (or all) of the machines in the North American dealerships.

The dealership will take your money happily if you go through them. They will obtain an SCN and get it done for you.
For those who has access to a Star Diagnosis with a developer kit, that's an alternative. Unfortunately, MB is basically making the Star Diagnosis as inaccessible as possible.

I do have a Star Diagnosis with developer kit. Anyone needing recoding of any control unit I'd be happy to help.

I just upgrade my control CD/Cassette unit to a NAVI unit. I need to enable navigation too. I have STAR DAS C4. How do I know if I have the developer kit on it.
And if so can you please tell me step by step on the STAR how to enable the NAVI?

THanks

Hi.
Sorry for digging old tread. I have a Star Diagnosis with developer kit. Can you point me step by step where I can get to the menu to enable Navi in instrument cluster? My car is W211 2004, but I think it's be a very similar. Thanks.

I have a GL with factory navigation, and have the 'extra' navigation screen in the instrument cluster.

I never use it.

All it shows is an arrow (ie. straight then bends left) and the text "Left on Main St in 1.8km"

I always just look at the comand for a much larger, clearer map. The instrument cluster screen shows very minimal info and I personally find it useless.

Only time I did use it was when I was looking for a specific location, while my wife was fiddling with comand trying to find an XM radio station she wanted to listen to. So while she was doing that, I flipped the instrument cluster to the navi screen and kept driving.

I'd say for 95% of the drivers it's pretty much useless (and unused)

Try one out in factory equipped ML/GL before you go through the trouble... you may never want this functionality in the first place.

Hello fellow Benzers,

sorry to hijack a thread but I have just recently registered with benzworld and 1 of 3 things I am looking advice on for has to do with this thread. I have a ML320 2007 reg. and keen to upgrade the COMAND unit and BT connector for various reasons, i.e. the COMAND seems a bit date especially the SATNAV, and none of my more recent iPhones are compatible with the current BT adapter version.

I am based in London so any local help/advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

I did it. If somebody need this info too, I found this options in "Control Units->Information and Communication->IC (instument cluster)->Control unit adaptation->Version coding"... all rest is easy understandable.
