I asked this before, but in a more vague manner - hopefully this will get a response.

My SL is misfiring and cutting out. It gets worse the longer/warmer the car is, and my gut feeling is that the coil is failing with heat on one bank - possibly both now.

One coil is easily accessed - I can see it, it's on the rhs inner wing. The other one, from tracing the HT lead from the rhs bank, is behind the ASR module.

Obviously this module looks to be a real pain to remove, so is there a way of getting to this coil to replace it and the HT lead, or is it really as complicated as it looks.

Bonus question: Any recommendations for a good supplier in the UK for a pair of coils, a set of HT leads (I tried performanceleads and they didn't take payment or send any leads, or respond to email) and a set of caps and arms?

It's an M119.960 engine, as far as I know.

I know how difficult for that 2nd coil to be remove if you didn't know that can reach from the wheel tunnle, so take the plastic cover (the mud guard) from the wheel side and you will see the 2 nuts that lock this 2nd coil

otherwise you need a hand from a kid 4-5 years old that can reach to its small space to remove it.....just kidding

The original coil is the Mercedes brand, but the new pair you can use Bosch which cost about $76.00 each

My '92 was doing the same thing. I had it in an indy and they diagnosed it as a bad rotor cap. They are notorious for this. Especially around our MY. I replaced both rotors and caps. No more problems. Much easier to do by the way than coils!

Like what Mike say....... check the caps & rotors first...

Caps and arms, and leads, are on the list first - but getting the coil-cap lead on/off looks like a fiddly job in itself!

I'm in the UK, so I'll need to find a supplier. Mercedes will be very expensive, I'm sure!
