I changed my E320 99" OIL with Mobile 1 0W-40 when it was teh ODO reading 95000 Kilometers, now it is reading 101130, but when I checked it was a bit less than the maximum

max< ======>min

..

I heard that u can keep this oil for more than maybe 15000 Kilometers? is it alright? anybody had done it before? what it is the problem?

Please post ur experience here..

well, i think is more every 12k kilometers (which is 7500miles) interval for a synthetic oil change. your oil level is not at maximum because it has used up some of it, since you have put 6130 km on your car from the last oil change.

The FSS computer on our 2000 E320 recommends an oil change every 14,300kms. I change it every 10,000kms because I'm not comfortable going to 14K.

I recently did an oil change on the my 99 E430. I used Mobile 1 10w30 Extended. it says guaranteed up to 15000 miles. I trust the brand of oil very much, So i think its safe if you do use mobil one up to 15000 miles, but thats the extend version. If its just the regular i would just do half of that.

Peter and Total are both using oils that do not bear the mark of meeting MB's spec for your FSS system, the only grade of Mobil1 that bears the mark is 0W40.

If you're going to go off-spec, try some Royal Purple. Cat in the 210-55 forum is raving about it. RP's official stance is that their oil is better than MB's requirements, but they don't want to spend the money to have it certified.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

I asked 2 WV dealers and they are both using 5W40 from Mobil also. So far, I have been unable to find it for sale anywhere except through those dealers.

I have 2001 E320 with 57K on it. I just called my dealer and he said they used to use Mobile1 0W-40 but changed to 5W-40 due to a bulletin they received from MB.

Does anyone have any info about this? I am about due an oil change and would like to know if change of recommendation by MB is valid. Most everyone on these forums as well as the mobile website suggest 0w-40.

It is true. However it is still safe to use 0W-40.

Thanks asianml!

Do you have any idea as to why the change? the statements on the back of the Mobile1 0w-40 bottle, as well as their website still recommend 0w-40. I am a bit surprised that Mobile1 and MB would not be in sync on this given this is not a week old change (MB changed recommendation in Jul 2006).

Would switching to 5W-40 have an impact on gas mileage? I am thinking if they recommend it I will use it.

Don't sweat the difference as it is minor to say the least. Impact on gas mileage would be almost imperceptible. Either oil gets thick enough when warmed up with the 40w end of the equation.

so up to 15000Km,

Hi there guys,,
Thanks to everybody who post their experiences with 0w-40. What I like to add is that two days ago I checked my Engine's oil and I found it back to normal:
<========>
as u see , dunno why?,,

Whatever I think I'm going to 15000 Km. unless I faced some abnormal difficulties.

See ya

Let say the situation is your running low on oil. What's in there is 5W-40 and you want to add 0w-40 grade to get the levels up.

Will there be consequences to mix the two?

I have read that a couple of people mix their oil viscosities on purpose. I would not do that, but the slight difference between 5W40 and 0W40 is probably insignificant as long as both oils meet the same minimum MB specs for your engine, and if they come from the same manufacturer.

John,
I just hit 75K on my car.
I brought it to this shopfor oil change and asked for '0 W40', but the idiots put '10 W40' in the car. It is still synthetic.

What am I looking at in terms of riding around with this oil for 6 months? I'll probably do some 4000 in that time.

If it were mine...I'd ride with it 'till you get to nightime lows of 35-40 degrees then have it changed for the lighter oil. The mechanics on this site may have a different opinion?
