Just had an interesting thought... I wonder how many of the approx 240,000 R107 SLs are left o. The roads today. I've seen so many that arein very poor shape at this point and I'm sure thousands have been scrapped over the years. Obviously these cars are kept nice more often than lesser cars. Just thought would be an interesting conversation starter. Is there some math whiz out there who could estimate?

yes i agree with Dugald, i find alot of 107's being circulated around the market and ebay. mostly in a very good condition.

what i like is the variety of interior/exterior color combinations...

Someone here has to have access to the dmv database. Just do a search for wdb107. When a vehicle vin is searched (stolen vehicle etc ), it goes thru a national search.

I live in West Michigan, and see very few,and most of them are 380sl and 560sl models.
The fact they built 240,000 approx in 19yrs is a valid question.I was serious in buying
a 1977 oldsmobile cutlass supreme in decent condition.low miles but rusted bumpers.
I found they built 1 million of them in 77 alone, but there was very little available on
e-bay and craigslist for parts or comparison.I tried to find parts non-existent,
bumpers are 450.00 a piece for starters. My point is this is a good question. Most
older 107s were sold worldwide, how many are there. The articles I read Hemmings etc.
They compare the 107 to the 50s thunderbird.I agree they are a durable modern
version of those.Very popular style with low numbers for 19years.

I got one too ! :D

In my country there are bout 4 or 5 including the old 280s. Im the only one with a 300 SL and there are probably two '70s 280s and I know of one SLC (owned by the Indy Mechanic that helps out with mine) and there is probably two other SLs around.

I have seen about 10 107s in my town of 75,000 people.
If we assume that is an average density, then we calculate about 45,000 107s in North America.
Assume I have seen only 1/2 the 107s in town = 90,000

Other assumptions are invited.

There are 5 within 3 blocks of me. So, considering how many blocks there are in the country, I think the total is somewhere around........

In any case, there's still a wholebuncha 107's floating around.

another stab in the dark

There are now 83 107s on ebay, out of a total 53,000 vehicles.

If we assume this is a representative density in the USA, then we calculate
there are about 400,000 107s in the total passenger vehicle population of 250,000,000.

That doesn't work ......

That's Ann's project. I am in charge of surface maintenance engineering - vacuuming, furniture dusting, table setting, etc. Tasks equal to my capabilities. I can even get the spoons, forks and knives in the proper order.

I bet that more than half of them are located in
California and Florida. There is one other within a few blocks of
where I am and they are both the same - 280sl 5 speed stick.

I actually saw a 280slc a couple of weeks ago and had never seen one of them before.
