My bad TC=transfer case. We started getting the chain-popping noise when accelerating hard from a stop a while ago so it was time to replace it. So far no issues with the transmission so I'm not much help there.

Our beloved 2008 GL320 CDI just recently left this world with a smidge over 140k miles. The oil cooler seals failed while driving and the engine seized. RIP. It is currently getting a replacement engine so it can live again.

Been about a year since I last posted in this thread, last I posted I was just about to do the oil cooler and seals, that was done right after I posted. I have put another 22,000 miles or so no leaks since. I just recently replaced right front air bag as their was a crunching noise at slow speed going over bumps, new bag fixed the noise. This has been one of my favorite cars.

Airmatic compressor replaced
All 4 shocks replaced
Battery replaced
Brakes discs replaced
Alternator regulator replaced

As you can see mostly wear and tear parts..... love the vehicle, just need to sort out the electronic gremlin bugging the GL at the moment

Just hit 210,000 miles this morning in the 2008 diesel. Recently replaced both rear shocks which were original and banging over bumps so solved that problem. I did not realize the rears were bags with separate regular shocks. So I never realized that when a rear bag was replaced the shock wasn't! Also had to replace front driver side airstrut but nice thing is I had put Arnott in a while back. So I removed it on a Sunday, took it over to my mechanic (who originally installed it) Monday morning and he had me a free replacement (lifetime warranty) by early afternoon and I got it back in that night. So basically for the rest of my ownership the struts are free! Strut only had 37K miles on it and was leaking huge. It would only take a couple minutes for the strut to be completely down. Also replaced the steering rack bushings because the steering felt kinda sloppy. Replaced the PS hoses too since we were in there. Steering nice and tight again.

Just bought a 2017 GLS that the wife is driving so I'm taking over the 2008. Next goal is 300K miles. :smile

-transfer case just failed, can see my other thread about how to do a botched repair,(free)
-new front brakes (just disks $80.usd each off amazon)
-looks like it might be the second set of air bags in the rear, ($60.usd each off amazon)
-fresh maintenance filters, also from amazon.
- battery is getting weak.
-there is some evidence that the turbo has been replaced but i need to call the dealer to be sure.
everything else looks excellent.

$80 for the front pads?

Have you checked out Rockauto? Their prices are pretty competitive.

Just picked up an 08 320 CDI, 98k
and a question for senior techs: My rearview mirror is loose; probably from previous owner using garage door buttons. Is it cammed in via a spring like earlier models, or is there a fastener I can get too without removing whole unit. Thanks!!

Here is an update:
The mileage is 100,234 and the car is gone. Traded it in on a Chevy Silverado 1500 4X4.
The rear SAM board died so that the trailer lights and brakes pulsed. $1400 Dealer only replacement and NOT covered by CPO warranty.
Two months later the SAM board died again. Free this time.
Replaced two air shocks under CPO Warranty.
New Oil cooler gaskets again.
New Timing chain again.
New turbo charger again.
The engine died and wouldn't start, the front main bearing went bad. New Engine.
Traded it in while the new engine was on order.
