And:
* Is it a Gas or Diesel?
* How many significant / expensive repairs along the way?

guess that is a livable repair at 170,000 miles

but have you checked all the stuff up top to make sure it is the oil cooler?

mine has leaked from the big plastic part that attaches to the turbo and holds the orange seal
the seals leak but often the plastic piece is cracked and that is where the leak comes from
you have to disconnect that from the air filter housings, pull it all out and check it over good

the first motor i had was really cracked badly, the second one it was micro cracks all around the part that holds the seal
the new part is updated

and also the small orange seal on hose next to all this leaks, it was leaking on my GL, i change both orange seals about every 12-15,000 miles
sooner if anything leaks

would be great if it was one of these things and not the oil cooler, much easier to do

Yea, I've changed the turbo gaskets you mentioned and it still likes to leave it's singnature, the inevitable has arrived.

New guy here.

I've owned my 2009 GL320 for about 9 months, and I've only driven a little over 15,000 miles myself. No issues at all during that time. It has 86,000 miles now. It's diesel, of course.

Just purchased 2012 GL450. 69k miles
Nice bro, hope you enjoy it. Great cars to drive!
The 2012 model year was the last before a redesign. What am I missing?
You are right 2013 was the redesign. I am unsure on features that yours would be missing. You would have to check out x166 forum or go test drive one.
2011 GL 550 with 100K on it. Just picked it up... 1 owner car dealer maintained and it looks like this past owner said yes to whatever the delaer told him ;)

Just probing to see what happens with these GLs when they get over 100K
Mileage

I have a 2008 GL320 CDI.

I bought it in mid 2014 with 63,000. I just turned 135,000. I drive a pretty good amount for work and I am the main driver when the family is together. I have had a few issues but the vehicle seems ok.
2008 GL320 CDI 198,500 miles. Bought new in September 2008. Still love it and it still looks new. Oil changes every 5K miles and don't forget the occasional TC and diff fluid changes. Keep an eye on the air filters also because nobody likes to change them and you may get charged for no work performed :(

Just fixed a big oil leak which turned out to be the oil filter housing gasket where it attaches to the block. Big leak and it took me a long time to figure out what was leaking. Replaced the entire housing as they will stress crack. CHeap only $140 and you get a free filter with it! Also just replaced the TC this morning. Sourced a rebuilt unit for $1,440 and did the labor myself. Hopefully its good for another 200K!

Pretty Awesome Mileage! my 07 Gl320 CDI just hit 200k Km or 120k miles. What kind of symptoms were you having with the torque converter? I have a strange problem when I Park overnight, the next morning when I start driving my first gear change flares up a few hundred rpms..... Only does this once and then it is good for the rest of the day or until it sits for over 10 hours or so. I'm thinking valve body has some leaks or something in it. Also had this flare all the time when I drove in -10deg F.
