I want to put the head pipes on my car soon,
but need to be ready with all necessary donut gaskets to assemble...
i.e. sealing rings.
there are 2 different types,
square shaped profile rings,
and tapered rings.
experience says the tapered rings go on the exhaust manifold to pipe interface,
and the square profile rings go everywhere else.
does anyone know for sure ? the exhaust diagrams I see don't state where the rings go.
here are the 2 types.

If I understand correctly the term "head pipes" (downpipes?), you have your answer here:

Everything on the V12 is doubled!

For full disclosure, the picture is shamelessly lifted off of this thread:

yes I've been under the car numerous times changing o2 sensors, changing oil, repairing brake and ADS hydraulic lines.
and I have the new head pipes i.e. down pipes in the basement brand new from Rock Auto and MB parts online.
what I needed to know is where the tapered and square ring seals go. I'm assuming by what the pipes look like,
the tapered seals go on the exhaust manifold interface, and the square seals go everywhere else downstream from that.
at least that's what I've found and what it looks like underneath the car. thanks for the additional picture.
so many of those head pipes are mistakenly CUT by foolish mechanics and car owners doing mods-
it is a big MISTAKE !!
a complete set of head pipes/forward pipes is $750
these hack jobs ruin expensive pipes that would probably last the life of the car if left alone....
