I have the same car. Mine has 72K on the clock and never a fuel problem. This is my 5th Benz with mileage up to 300K and still never a fuel problem. If I were you, I would buy a couple of coils from amazon monthly and change ut all 12 of them at once. Same with the MAF sensors.

I have also about 72K on the clock. I have noticed a slight fuel drip around the fuel pump/fuel filter, and thats why I was wondering how long fuel pumps last. I have replaced the fuel filter about 5 years ago. Also, why do you recommend me to get coils ? Doesn't the V8 have 8 coils ?

 

Replaced mine at 200k 20year mark. Was still working but was loud.

 

Is there one or wto fuel pumps. My Indy was telling me about a SL600 he was working on thathad two pumps in series because of the high pressure needed.

 

600 has two. 320 has one. Don't know about the 420 or the 500.

 

'99 S500 has one under the car next to the fuel filter.

 

On my 300SE (1991) the fuel pumps died at 300.000 km. I have the 2 pump system - one of the pumps had stamping "91" on it, other one had "06". But I would suggest you to change them, if they look old. As a preventative maintenance. Like they cost around 100$ but are so important. And can be a diy job.

 

I have 171K miles and to my knowledge still have original pump or pumps.

 

Which brand is better Pierburg or BOSCH ?

 

i do not know for pierburg but bosch is no longer what it was a decade and more ago. So not putting bosch parts in our cars is not a super bad idea mildly said.

 

I had to replace a Pierburg pump after only 1 and half years of usage, which is not acceptable. My mechanic got another Pierburg, and I saw on the box that it said Country of origin : China. I told him to order me a BOSCH pump, and hopefully it will not say China.

 

pierburg is not known/used here in this part of the world so i really do not know anything about it.

 

One can get a genuine Mercedes rebuilt by Mercedes for same price as a new China inferior part

 

My S500 lasted 180k in 18yrs, My W210 is at 250k now with the original pump Buy a MB, but I do have RockAuto special as a spare for the wagon, and when my S500 pump quit. I did put a used W210 pump for about 600 miles until I bought a MB pump at the dealer.
