Well I took my car to 8700' elevation over Ebbetts pass. The car ran fine but didn't have very much power on the pass. Past about 7500ft the car was a gutless wonder, I had to slip the transmission into s mode to keep it climbing. Weird that I'd hit the gas and the car would struggle to get past 3000rpm. Other than no power the car ran great.

Ended up in Southlake tahoe then came home tonight. In southlake around 6200ft, the car had a miss off idle and didn't seem to want to run correctly but it never stalled out. I am glad to have made it past the pass as Ebbetts isn't for the shy.

So how high have you been?

Johannesburg, on the plateau as high as 1750m (5750ft), for first 6 years of my ownership of 450SLC.
I saw huge difference in power when in Durban on coast line, free guess is 20% more power

Permanent high altitude requires leaner setup, however, K-Jet should have decent altitude compensation in place due to the injection measure principle.
But then again, power loss with altitude could be more pronounced with lower compression engines like US spec cars

Mt. Charleston about 20 miles north of Vegas...about 8000 feet. Don't recall any engine problems but do remember having to gear down. A friends' 560SEL tends to overheat on the climb. Great drive in the summertime...temps are usually 30-40 degrees cooler at the summit.

Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountan National Park, 12,183 feet. This is in my "backyard", was up there 2 weeks ago and the 560SL ran beautifully. I live in Loveland, elevation 5,000', and have never driven the SL below that elevation so have no comparison.

The 560 actually has a pressure compensator for altitudes.

I once took the best kind of car possible to the top of Pikes Peak.

A Company car.

Seems to me BenzyPalooza 2011 hit 9800 feet somewhere along the way.
I know the PIG was in 3ird gear and basically to the floor in some spots. Apparently there was some black smoke coming out the tailpipe that day.

The PIG sure does prefer downhill drives.
