Back in 2007 I got the bug to see if i could find a chary 85 380se like had back in 1985. Looked all over and found this in an estate 55k on the odometer, one owner, kept in a garage and driven by a senior citizen..Went down to Naples Florida and drove it home. It's still one of the best looking, best driving vehicle around these parts and the world in general, imo.. Getting rarer every day. Now have 160k on the OD. Probably have to bury me in it some day.

How long have you been driving your 126??

On May 2020, I will have owned mine for 11 years and added slightly more than 200 000 km to the odo. Hoping to break the total of 700 000 km in a year or so !

I think I'm on 11 years now, similar to you guys. I can't think of a more awesome use able classic. Modern cars aren't my thing now, I drive them a lot but they don't appeal to me at all any more.

Four years for me , It’s my daily driver when I’m not biking or motorbiking to work. Love it more now than when I first got it.
Every day that goes by these cars become more special in every way.

I brought my first Mercedes home in 2003, seventeen years & about 90,000 miles ago.

Each of you above has said something that rings true for me as well.

I bought my car as an unloved car back in 2012, it took me 3-4 years to get it to "right" mechanically and aesthetically and don't drive it often but certainly enjoy it when I do.

ok, I've told this story before on another thread titled "Why Did You Buy Your MBZ":

My friend Rene imported an 85 500 sel. He moved out of the county and offered to sell it to me for a song, at 100,000 miles. Even so, I asked "She Who Must Be Obeyed" whether I should buy it. SWMBO was bald at the time (1999) and doing chemo, fully expecting her to say "I'm on a spiritual level now, don't bother me with material things."
Her eyes narrowed and she replied "Buy it. Everybody should have a Mercedes before they die."
I did and SWMBO has been in remission ever since. So its our lucky car and obviously cannot be sold.

Both are doing well and we have added 200,000 miles (to the car) over 21 years. It hasn't been cheap since a lot of things normally wear out, even on an MBZ, but its a lot more fun than driving one of those cars (with all due respect) that looks like a jelly bean and everything else on the road (even a new Bentley I just saw). Cheers everybody and thanks to this forum for teaching me.

Had mine since 2004.

I'm on my third engine, my fourth sound system installation, fourth set of wheels, about to put in my fourth radiator, second interior, third instrument cluster, third AC system...

Not much left of the original car except for the chassis.

I bought a 500sel in April 1994 and have driven 126’s ever since. My current car 1991 560sec I’ve had since 2014. Best cars ever made. Can’t think of anything I’d rather drive.

Got my '91 300 SE in 1992 with 10K miles. Pushing towards 300k now. Still my daily driver, original awesome paint, interior, engine, tranny, etc. Still smile when I get in. She's my major hobby, and I do a lot of work on her for fun and to keep her perfect. But in all this time never really had a repair that cost much at all, since I do all the work.
Wife's 2015 ML is just another American car - quiet and smooth, but cheap plastic everywhere, snapped together like a Lego toy, and VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE to perform even routine maintenance on.
Sad to see where MB as come to.

Pictures! Come one, let's see it.

I bought my 1985 Euro 500 SEC the end of July, 2018. At first it was a disaster, with everything going wrong. Bad luck. But it quickly turned around and has treated me wonderfully. I absolutely love it.

Dang Tbsili and Grumpy, I never thought I'd like a gray 126 but those are two good looking cars. The others too but I was struck by the sedans. What are your tire sizes?

I took a W126 hiatus for many years, more exactly 2001-2017. I almost fell off my chair when the seller of the car that would become my new (to me) 560SEC mentioned a few details that made me believe it is the 300HP version. I bought it sight unseen, some 5,000kms away so when it arrived and I lifted the hood to see the Tri-Ys in all their glory, I jumped for joy. Although a low mileage example with paperwork to make it believable, I am still sorting things and the parts/repair costs exceeded the purchase price a long time ago. It is coming along and I really hope this year I will be alot closer to where I want it to be.

December 18, 2017. The day I received it, after it spent almost 2 weeks on a train car crossing from British Columbia to Ontario:

This is pretty much how "Friedrich" sits. Pic was taken in September 2019, but not much changed since. I am sitting on a stock pile of parts and I hope I will bring a few cosmetic improvements for this season:
