Had my 1996 c220 for many years and this is a new one. I have always used my key or remote to lock my doors. For the first time, I needed to lock my doors when my keys weren't available.
Guess what!!! I couldn't. How do I lock my doors without a key? Every car that I've ever had American, Japanese and Swedish allow me to do so. Is Mercedes lacking this provision?
Thanks...I must be missing something .

The central locking system is designed with safeguards to prevent you from locking the keys in the car. The driver's door cannot be locked manually or automatically if it is open, but you can lock the passenger door as long as the key has been removed from the ignition. I wasn't lucky enough to have a keyless entry remote or a central locking button, but I've found it's much easier to walk around the car than to reach through. The factory service manual for my 201 explains operation of the system pretty well on page 38, I'll add the link as soon as I'm allowed.
