Hi Guys,

New to here. So Hello :)

First question to start it all off.

Here we go by KMs. On my Speedo Dial its MILES with KM in a smaller circle very hard to see.

Just want KMs, whats the quickest, less expensive way to fix this?

Then whats the all-out way, to make sure that even the MILES odometer starts reading as KM? Ecu mapping or something?

Hi mate.

I think the easiest thing that you can do is use the digital read-out on the big display in the middle.

You can change it to display speed in either KPH or MPH.

Go into the settings and you'll find it.

As for changing things permanently, I guess that would involve installing a completely new cluster with KPH displayed on the larger, outside circle. Not even sure if there is such a thing.

The digital reading is just a small rectangle at the bottom.. Is that what your talking about?

Can that be used to read the speed?

Whatabout if I change the Dials?

I mean the big display in the centre of the cluster between the temperature display and the time display. The big screen that you can use to display the CD track, change seetings, check for faults etc..

As well as using it to display the radio station, CD track etc.. you can also use it to give you a digital display of your current speed. You can choose between MPH & KPH. When you choose to use the screen to display your speed, your speed is shown in large numbers in the centre of the screen. It is also the ONLY thing that is displayed so it is easy to read.

However, if you choose to use this larger screen to dsiplay your speed, you won't be able to display the radio station etc when you're driving. Unless you change it of course.

I'm not sure if you can change the dials... it's the first time I've heard of it.

I know you can get AMG clusters etc but they will have the same speed layout on the dials.

Don't think we're talking about the same cluster.

My one is close to this

Haha... yeah,we're talking about the same cluster. :D

You must think the screen in the middle is smaller than I do. hee hee.

I've always thought that the centre screen is big enough to use to display your current speed. Do you not like it?

I'll keep my eyes peeled for a cluster with different dials for you though.

Hehehe.. Ok cool

Thanks dude.

Btw, what happens if I install a Sony deck.. do the controls displays still work
Funnily enough, in-car entertainment is something I haven't tackled yet so I won't be able to help too much on that.

But I think I heard at some stage that you may well loose your steering wheel controls if you do change your sterio system.

Quite a few guys on the forum have modified their sound/ entertainment systems so I'm sure it won't be long before you get a reply from someone who CAN help you out.

TheSilverEye, fill out your profile so we know how to help. A 97 CLK in North America does not have that same instrument cluster, and when my wife had a 2000 E430 that option of showing the speed in the big square display was not available. It only became available in 2001, at least here in North America.
