How Do I Clear Service Indicator on Dash?

17104 Views 12 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  mobcat
I just had my service A completed on my car but I went to an independent garage. My dash keeps saying that "Service A due now" ... how do I clear this? Do I need to bring it into a Mercedes dealership to have this complete or is there a manual way to reset it in my car?

All help is appreciated! Thanks! :)

Actually, it's a bit more complicated. According to what I can glean from other contributors (each of whom has different vehicles, but all had the FSS), here's the process.

1) Get in car, close the door. Procedure won't work with door open. Then perform the following sequence:

2) Insert key and turn to position 2, then push reset twice; your display should show the wrench symbol and service mileage. The rest of the sequence must be done quickly (about 3 seconds).

3) Turn off key, push in and hold reset button, and quickly turn key to position 2 while continuing to hold the reset button. The FSS then takes about 15 seconds to reset (while you hold the button in).

An alternative procedure posted by one contributor says:
You have to have the key in the ignition and turned to position 2, it's the position just before the car starts. Then go to the FSS screen, or where is says Service A or B due in xxxx - Hold down the reset button until it ask's if you want to reset the service interval. Then push the reset button again.

Yet a third says:

1) Turn the electronic key in steering lock to position 2. Call up the trip odometer and main odometer, using your steering wheel controls. Then call up the FSS indicator using the steering wheel controls.

2) Press button 'R' on the instrument cluster for approximately 2 seconds. The multifunction display will show the question:

'DO YOU WANT TO RESET SERVICE INTERVAL? - CONFIRM BY PRESSING R'

3) Press button 'R' on the instrument cluster again, and hold until a signal sounds. The message 'SERVICE INTERVAL HAS BEEN RESET' appears in the multifunction display. The new service indicator is displayed with the reset distance of 10,000 miles (Canada 15,000 km).

As I understand it, while the normal service sequence alternates between "A" and "B" service, if you have exceeded certain time parameters of your service interval, a "B" service may be followed by another "B" service when the FSS is reset.

Thank you so much, i'm going to try this tonight! I'll let you know which method worked on my 2003 c320 4 matic
The third procedure to reset the FSS that you listed is in my owners manual for 02' C230KSC. It would not work though, and I'm wondering if the FSS has to be at "due" status for the reset. I think I had the door open, but procedure states nothing about the door needing to be closed. Right now my MFD reads 400 miles until service A is due.

Are you sure the key was in the number "2" position. It HAS TO BE in position "2". The door does not need to be closed. This idea is mostly for safety purposes. I reset with the door closed. Position "2" is where the dash warning lights are on, the blower fan will work, windows can be rolled up/down. Position "3" is to start the car "2" is where it stays after start position "1" is just the ACC position. It can be a little confusing at first but once you do it once you will feel dumb with how easy it was. I know I did. Plus you can reset it at any time. you could reset it 10 times in a row if you wanted to. I hope this helps. By the way I have an '05 C230 but I do not think it is any different than '02.
Yes, I know which positions are which, but thanks for the heads up. :) I might have just had the ignition on position one. Come to think of it that is where I had it, because I was sitting out there for a long time messing with the settings. I just recently found that my MFD page keys still work by pressing them hard. They are defective in that they don't work with slight pressure. I was really happy to find out they can still work though, because it's definitely an expensive repair.
ok i tried the procedures listed on here and in my manual and it did not reset the service indicator on the dash, it only reset the mileage about the actual mileage of the car. My service says that it is now past due by 100 miles. I guess i'll be going to the dealership tomorrow. They better not try to charge me.
I have a 2003 C240 4Matic and the third proceedure jayzo listed is the one that works for me.

02' C230 Kompressor Sport Coupe

Third proceedure works as it should, as listed in my owners manual, and in Jayzo's post. Reset it at a gas station after I filled up...
Hey, I found this link online that tells how to do it, though I've yet to try it! I'm due in 400 miles! LOL

Mercedes Benz FSS Reset Procedure

Probably about the same thing you guys have been saying, but I thought I'd put my 2 cents in!

Mike:D
just did the alternative procedure one on mine and held the reset switch down on the FSS screen...easy as that
I just reset mine...

Turn key to start - but do not start
Menu to the screen saying "Service due..."
Press and hold reset
Screen will ask you to confirm by pressing reset
Release reset button and repress
Screen resets to next service interval...

No need to go to dealer with a 2005
