I recently bought an 05 C55 from a used car dealer. The dealer had already attached its plastic, three-dimensional name tag just above the C55 on the trunk. I think it's tacky and ugly. I can't quite get my hands underneath it. I don't want to scratch the paint, obviously. Does anyone have any experience with this problem?

Thanks,

Ramblin man

Man I am proud of you.
I DESPISE advertising for my Auto man.

Try shooting some WD-40 or Creeping Oil BEHIND the offensive tag.
Let it soak some while.
The WD-40 will weaken the sponge pad and the adhesive glue.
You can try "popping" it off or if you have strong floss, you can wiggle it behind
the plate and "slice" it back and forth until the bond between the plate and the adhesive pad is severed.
Don't try and remove the Plate AND the Pad at the same time.
Do this in increments

Once the offending tag is remove you have easy access to that pad.
More WD-40 or Creeping Oil and soak it!
A little bit of finger nail persuasion or if your wife has a wooden cuticle stick use that to "scrape" off the small chunks remaining.

Once you get going; you'll see what I mean.

Good Luck!

PS: WAX the entire section once your done.
WD-40 removes everything. :)

I use fishing line to get the tag off, then goo gone to get the adhesive, then follow with a thorough cleaning and wasing of the offended area.

Dang it; FISHING LINE!
That's much better than using Dental Floss.

Your da man! :)

Fishing line + hair dryer :)
Actually, heat it first then use the fishing line...Also, for a real clean look, take off all the badges...

Once the the foam sticky tape is gone, use goop off and then wipe with some alcohol and then polish and wax

Use the dealer you bought it from. Tell them to remove it. They will be happy to do it for you. They know exactly how it went on and how it can safely be removed. They do it every day.

I thought about that, but it's an hour from here and therefore inconvenient, and I am concerned that as a non-MB dealer they'd do a poor job now that the sale is completed they have no incentive to do it well. I'd rather do it myself.
