Hood Star Replacement

I purchased a new hood ornament to replace one that was stolen or removed in the car wash. I have the replacement in hand but it is not readily apparant how to remove and replace. The under hood portion makes a quarter turn and seems like it should then seperate but I don't want to force it and damage it. Anyone done this recently?
