Thats great! makes 65K sound really small. Mine had 59 K when I got it. I will try and beat that record. I do expect it to atleast pass 200K without much problems. I have a friend who had a 240D and it went over one million miles. It does not supprise me too much to see a W140 with 200K miles on it. Any mercedes with the alot of TLC should last at least that long. I have another friend who has the same car as mine; 92 600sel and it has passed 160K miles and he has never had any big problems with it. how many miles has your w126 gone?

S Class Mileage

In ex-Yougoslavia, People know a 900.000 miles (i.e. more than 1.400.000 kms) gasoline S class from the sixties . It's an MB maintened car with original paintwork, engine, and transmission...
This mileage is a real one, certified by maintenance book.
Sincerly hope yours will do the same.

Hey Man! I live here in Hawaii and I know this dude who used his W140 for VIP transportation for his Tour Company. It's a 1993 500SEL and it registered 312,876 miles the last time I seen it, he basically changed everything in the car except the engine, and boy I tell ya what.... It's still going strong and the car did not even broke down ONCE! He bought it with 125k miles on the odometer and he has not regrets about his purchase, after 10 years, it's still a beautiful car with the undeniable mejestic stance only a W140 can have. [][][][][][]

Have a look at this website and click on the 1997 S 300 TD http://www.mb-w140.de/Pictures/ It has over 400,000km on the odometre and "Er läuft immer noch wie am ersten Tag" It still drives like it did on the first day. It is one of the few W140s I have seen with a cloth interior. Then again it was a taxi.

I think some models had the digital and some had analog. My 92 500SEL has the digital one. I read a technical bulletin on alldata.com stating that there was a problem with some of the analog gauges. If the car was brought back for warranty service, they would have swapped it out for the digital unit.

[?] Then I saw a 1994 S500 with digital, but then saw a 1994 S320 with analog. Starting in 1995, I think MB totally did away with analog, but before that everything seems mixed around. During the early years of the 140, were digital odometers considered an option? Or could you only get them if you had a problem with the analog ones? This question has come up before about a digital odometer on a 1993 500SL. The car should've had an analog odometer, but a digital version was installed in the car.

After checking with the dealer that worked on the car, the original gauge cluster was replaced with a new one, and gauge clusters are only available with digital odometers. In this particular case, the digital odometer was updated to reflect the actual mileage, and the documentation was there to prove the mileage was correct.

A dealer technician who works at the dealer in Milwaukee confirmed that only ditigal gauge clusters are sold at the dealer.

my 1992 500SEL is most definitely a digital odometer. One would think that a '93 would be as well (even an SL).

Hmmmmm....

I'm not sure whether to be scared or not! I just bought a '91 420SEL from my MB mechanic that has 211,7xx miles on it. It's a sweet ride, and still has the original tranny and motor.

I *know* I don't have the highest mileage SEL out there! He's told me of cars he works on that have in excess of 300k miles.... most he's mentioned was 370k, when one car was totalled.

Well, I am pretty fired up about my analog odometer, especially since it reads 39424 miles on it.
This is my first MB and boy is she sweet.
I am the second owner 92' 400se.
Sure would love to see it hit 300k w/o any major problems.[]
