Upon start up I am experiencing a high pitch whistle noise that is low in volume for 2-3 seconds. The sound seems to eminate from the center top of the dash (near the center air vents) and it is distinct from the initial start up seat belt warning buzzing noise. Ideas?

AC's vacuum system (part of it) is making its job? Positioning or repositioning of the flaps which are situated in the air ducts behind the dash ?

Thank you for your post. I attempted both with and without the A/C system active on start up with no difference. I wonder what it could be. Bad to constantly reproduce, as I do not want to kill the starter. Hmm...

Piccolo Pete is an old whistling firework (pretty loud) that could be attached to ignition wiring of your friend's car so that it is set off when the car is started. I have not seen (or heard of these) in years.
