I had a similar problem with my 2005 ML270. It turned out to be a faulty All Activity Module and cost about $Australian 1500.00 to replace BUT there are many threads on how to check for associated problems before actually replacing the unit. One such is:- http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w163-m-class/1591416-ml270-cdi-high-beam-constantly-3.html
But you will find 43sqd really understands this area if you answers his questions andfollow his advice.

Thanks guys! I went to shop and check... even the shop's computer cannot pull any signals or code from the ECU... is that means my AAM is screwed!!! But my locking mechanism and low beam and signal lights are still working normal... and it is really a crazy price to get this AAM replace... I wonder if there's any other choice that is cheaper???

Ben, if he doesn't want to answer or failed to see the questions, then there is nothing else I can do.

Sorry 43sgd and yes I see your questions I have the xenon lighting and it might cause some problems since the car is getting old... shop told me big chance the AAM has problems... and it is expensive to replace because the AAM is blank and you have to reprogram it... so the cost to purchase the AAM and also find a technican to program it. And thank you for your help!

You only answered one of the three questions, Xenon lights.

Are the xenon lights stock or were they converted?

What happened to the other two?

Hey, I have exactly the same problem with C200 from 2002. Is that thread alive?

In addition, sometimes the horn also starts to randomly blow.
Turning the car engine off and pulling the keys out would usually stop the horn and NOT the lights. Then, when switching on, the horn starts again. And both problems are resolved only when I open the front lid, remove the air filter and disconnect the battery. It's then as per normal.

I have this problem for about 5 years now, maybe more. It's very frustrating. At least, sometimes it happens two days in a row or three times in the given month and then it could be "silent" for an year or so.
It occurred in both hot and cold periods; during the very act of driving - 5 minutes after start or 30 minutes after start; many times it also occurred some 5 to 30 minutes after turning the car off and walking away.

1. I have no xenon lights.

2. what happens with the high beams if they are not in AUTO? - which one is "AUTO"? It happened when the switch is in vertical position (0), and at the "Lights" icon (far right). I haven't tried with Gauge lights.

3. do you have any additions to the lighting system? - no.

Thank you

OK, thank you! I thought so, but this discussion was one of the first that popped out in Google after I tried searching for my problem. Will look into the right place or post a new question there.
