Just signed up because Im looking for a well built MB Diesel 300 class early to mid 80's to drive my grand daughter around safley. I live in phoenix AZ so it must have a reliable A/C unit. Selling my toyota and going Benz. Any info as to what chassi and model I should be looking for would help.
Thanks Dan

The MB 300D, 300SD in the 1978-1985 range are very reliable vehicles. I have two 300Ds, a 1984 and a 1985 that are driven regularly. The 84 model has 420,000 miles and runs as well as it did when new. The 85 has 279,000 miles and is a very strong engine. I have driven both of these this year on trips from northern Alabama to Springdale, Arkansas-Joplin, MO, a 1,400 mile round trip and have had no problems.I change oil every 5,000 miles and adjust the valves every 20,000 miles. The AC on these vehicles is not super cold but is adequate. We don't have Arizona heat here in Alabama but it gets 95-100 here in the summer with lots of humidity. It takes a few minutes to cool down but it stays comfortable inside the car.
Good luck with your hunt. They are well built safe vehicles.

Thank you for your input on those modles, Ive got my eye on a couple 83sd's now. I may just upsize the condenser on the car to assist in the performance of the AC. I appreciate your time and effort.
