Hids4u also sell replacement LED bulbs for fog lights, side lights, tail lights etc so if you go for the look, everything can be done to match which I think will look right...

I did wonder with the original wiring loom if there were any weak points that would be exposed by fitting xenons but from the info on the website, the power take is comparable to an H4 halogen bulb.

I have a spare 35W HID kit but wondered if the wiring would have any issues with it. I'd just need some bulbs for my euro headlights to try it out.

You may want to consider a headlight relay system. With it a relay is hooked to the battery and your headlights are hooked to the relay. One of the existing headlight sockets is also hooked to the relay allowing you to turn on and off the relay (turning off and on the headlights). Major difference in light output.
