My bet is its either (in order of likelihood) : a faulty ballast, incorrect kit type (you need, but don't have, a canbus error free type) or a problem with the wiring (e.g. thin wire so inadequate voltage at the ballast input, or a poor ground).

I'm also betting its not the bulb.

Most likely cause is not getting enough power. AAM provides PWM voltage but the ballast needs constant 12v with high amp to fire up the bulb. You should install a relay if you haven't done so. This will provide power directly from the battery. Relay will also protect the AAM in case of a possible short circuit. If the relay causes a flicker or chatter, install a capacitor. Other reasons would be wiring, ballast or bulb.

No mention of canbus error free, so the kit type may be the cause of the problem.

If you try the left ballast with the right wiring and/or the right ballast with the left wiring and the problem changes sides then you know you have a faulty ballast.

If the problem doesn't change sides then the problem is canbus error (change the kit or get an error cancelling harness) or wiring (check for adequate power supply and good grounds, or install a relay harness as per the above member's post.

I'm still betting it's not the bulb .... if it works for 5 or more minutes each time then the bulb should be good.

Those ultra slim ballast units are very unreliable!
I bought the same or similar kit from eBay UK and both ballasts went faulty in just a couple of months.
The seller was very good and sent two more ballast units which were beefier and reliable. I fitted a HID kit to my my older SL500 the ballast units in that kit were full size and have never let me down in just over 5 years.

I fitted the hid kit today and works well, the only problem is if you use the auto lights it puts the esp light on when starting the car at night.I did not need a relay and have no flickering.

Well done, after a possible faulty ballast, wrong kit was my next guess. Very strange that the ESP light should come on (presumabkly it goes off after the car has started) .... maybe one of the experts here will have a theory on this as the linkage is not obvious to me. My guess is its probably electrical interference or back EMF or similar (or Canbus related) so not something easily overcome .... you may have to live with it.
