I had one of my bulbs blow and last time I replaced them I discovered a WORLD of different pricing!

The dealer naturally asking $189 per bulb was ruled out.
Autohauz seemed reasonable at $89 by comparison.

When the other side just died last week I thought even $89 bucks for a light buld seemed a bit steep.

I found this listing (I am not affiliated in any way) on Ebay
D2S HID BULBS PAIR 03 04 05 Benz S Class 500 55 600 - eBay (item 250699644819 end time Dec-18-10 22:49:48 PST)

I figured a pair for 12 dollars with shipping is about as good as it could get.
Guy had decent feedback and since sold in Pairs I'd have a spare to keep in the trunk.

So I bit and paypaled and 4 days later they arrived nicely packaged too.
Installed easily enough and it looks as good as the other OEM bulb.

I guess only time will tell if it is truly as good, but so far so good.

I'll post a follow up if or when it fails....

I only replaced one

What I can say is the $89 Flosser from Autohauz and the $6 bulb are both running now. I saw no reason to replace a bulb that was working.

I ordered the 4300K which is oem spec.

When shining the light on the wall as I park, I CAN NOT TELL WHICH BULB IS WHICH.. they look exactly the same in brightness and color

Follow up?

It has been over 1 month and I had both headlight beams on a white wall.

The high priced bulb and the $6 bulb are still the same in color & output.

I'd have to say this experiment shows the cheapie to be a GREAT deal, especially when the dealer charges $180

I've Had the "cheapies" for months now! They work great and i put them on my uncle's too and no problems at all. I would say I had mines for about 9 months 6000 diamond white i believe and still works as brand new. And i got cheap high beams and low beams bot costing around $40 all together and they work fantastic!

Could you update that supplier link if possible, it's currently dead. Thanks for putting in regular updates, I do not doubt that we are still in the "huge markup" phase of xenon lights. I'm just glad they are obviously dropping in prices.

Sad to report lights from Ebay do not work!
Received very flimsy packaging to begin with, one tube containing the light had the seal broken and the top of the bulb was scraping the casing.
It does fit into the whole , but when trying to turn the retainer ring it's not working, so it will go back to the seller.
AZautohaus has it for like $70, dealer asked $40, so....
The original bulb is made by Philips for those interested

fwiw

I can tell you getting the bulbs in to that tight space is not easy.

There are little tabs & ears that must align perfectly so the knurled knob retaining ring can rotate to lock it in place.

My $6 ones are still perfect.

ALSO NOTE I noticed that ozone has greatly deteriorated the 3 wires that went to the bulb holder. I think there is RED BLUE & BLACK the insulation had all cracked so I carefully wrapped in electrical tape to prevent shorting

I have no problem getting the bulb to fit in the hole, as the notches in the base of the bulb match.
What i do have difficulties withm is getting the plastic retainer ring to rotate in place, it's just not snapping.
As soon as i put the old light bulb in, which by the way still works, the retainer clip rotates and snaps into place, so it must be the new bulb that's at fault.

try this

Hold the old & new bulb together and LOOK carefully.

It seemed to me that the old bulb's collar shrinks a bit from heat
and the newer one is a tiny bit thicker.

That rotating collar is a bitch to get perfectly aligned with trying to keep the bulb in place. It took huge patience and about 20 minutes of cursing but when in correct alignment it all clicked properly. Also note there is a rod on the outside of the glass bulb that needs to go back same way as original did.

Yes see the topic of this thread. These are Ebay aftermarket HID/Xenon replacement bulbs. Commonly sold for ~$14 a pair from China... they are not OEM Philips, but lots of folks have had good results with them.
