We have a 1998 w124 E320 avantgaurde, this was built when MB thought that making rubbish with a MB badge was a good idea, we have had this 3 years with lots of electrical faults and more rust than my old Escort estate. The only reason we keep it is because its only worth a bag of peanuts and it does not do a lot of miles anymore and is quite nice to drive.
My 96 w124 E320 estate was a much better car but the gearbox failed with over 200k on the clock and was not worth repairing, hence the Escort. Cheap to buy, cheap to repair and makes a good small van with four seats.
