About time I stopped being a lurker and got signed up on BW.
Attaching a pic of my 205,000miles driven 2005 OM648 W220 with AMG Pack UK-Spec option and OE Diesel-spec exhaust tips.
DD since 2018 January. Came from M112/M113 W220s. Never looking back.

Welcome fellow om648 owner.
Really handsome W220 you have there, with sharp looking wheels. I have an 05 E320CDI with the OM648. I think the OM stands for oomph!

Yes I know you guys got the W211 with OM648 without DPF (?). I just performed the EGR delete mod on mine as well.

Thank you, I got these wheels off of a W213 AMG Pack 2018 from UK. They really changed the way it looks. Sets it apart. W220 648 is a novelty in my country as well. We have maybe 6 or 7 of them. The combination of W220+648+bulletproof722.6 is magnificent. Best of all worlds and then some. I have driven it 50K miles in under an year and have zero intention of sitting in anything else.

I wish we had your used car prices around here. A 648 W220 is upwards of 25K USD (That is if you find one). Taxes y'all.

Yes,magnificent combo! Something to cherish!
I ordered my US Spec 05 E320CDI with om648 and 722.6, the last model without DPF; just in the nick of time at the end of 05 production late May 2005. We picked it up at the factory in Stuttgart, had a blast touring 2,500 miles around Europe; before dropping off in Madrid for Mercedes to ship to USA. That motor has so much torque, yet still gets 37mpg highway; we have no need for a petrol V8!

My W220 has quite a story as well. I was going to buy a W222 in 2018 January. The S400 Hybrid W222 is nominally priced due to low taxes (HEV). Saw this parked at a local indy. Opened the hood and my eyes popped out of their sockets (Car had no badges). Traced the owner and begged him to sell it. Convinced him and bought the vehicle for 1/4th of my budget. This decision was severely frowned upon by my company advisors and other staff. 100,000miles later, they still don't understand half of it but I love my ride.

Early in 2019 I got 2X low mileage W220s dismantled in Germany (where 9 out of 10 W220s are exclusively OM648....I wonder why hmmm) and got each and every part shipped here for parts. Early 2020 I did a hand-rebuild of the 722.626 WA580 (Yes I know about @MAVA and @Rossafuss - Huge thx to them for their replies on this forum). Did all the frictions and seals with the help of ATSG MOPAR NAG1 instructions.

Airmatic has not given up on me and this vehicle is on original set of injectors still. I have an extra 2 sets from my donor cars but it doesnt even need them.

Now a bit of background, I'm an engineer and I come from W221 S550 and W220 S500. Dare I say the S500 has got nothing on the 648. Absolutely nothing. Not the power curve. Not the driving feel. Not the fuel eco. 648 220 just has that manly grunt, it makes you feel invincible on the road and has the reliability to cement that effect. Its a PROPER MB. Dare I say as an engineer that Inline-6 is the best industrial platform as well.

At some point I will graduate to a W222 S400D OM656 Inline 6 which is all the rage nowadays on German roads. But its $250,000 US Dollars over here. Thats 2X Ferrari 458s in UAE. Haha. Ill hang onto this W220 as a permanent collection along with my 124 and 140 both M104 (HFM and LHSFI respectively).

Some more pics of the 648 Leviathan as I nicknamed it.

Love the background story. Totally agree about a PROPER MB. And the intrinsic balance of a cast iron block inline-6 for applying loads of torque.
There's something endearing about a design of ageless beauty and durability. Your W220 certainly qualifies perfectly!
Thanks for posting. Cheers!
