I checked the Mux with my 97 S320. And amazingly everything works , actuations work, everything works . So probably the issue is with the C280, as I'm cycling the Ignition it probably cuts the power to the 38pin socket.

Transfer coding data from one control module to another. Can anybody explain how this is carried out?

Lets say I'd want to replace Transmission Control Module… with used from ebay, new from the dealer, remanufactured…
The screen shot below shows Variant Coding options with my existing TCM installed. What happens when I click YES? Can I actually transfer coding data to another unit with HHT WIN?

To carry out this procedure…

…Turn ignition Off > Replace Control Module > Turn ignition ON… SDS / HHT must remain connected all the time.

So, car battery terminals MUST be Connected during Control Unit swap… correct?

Yep. Nothing wrong with unplugging ECU's or modules when the ignition is off. Key out if the car uses electronic key fob.

As I select option 4 - actuations, it asks me to cycle the ignition OFF-ON, as I cycle the ignition the menu goes to next screen, HFM Actuations.
In both cases when I start the car I loose connection with mux, the little lock icon inthe task bar shows lock "unlocked" . The screen goes to "Fault PC - mux link...."
I probably wouldn't care much if I want to use the C4 for reading and clearing the faults, but I specifically got it to troubleshoot my Secondary Air Injection System, its running very long it drives me crazy that I can't find the cause
Apologies for the imposition. My first post on the r129 list.
I am a c140 owner and my car is built in the first batch (prod. date 10/92)
M120.980 with LH

Just like andy1100, I recently got an SDS (mine is a C3). Able to read and clear codes, display live data, etc.

However, my first attempt at using the "control element actuation" failed miserably. As you can see from the linked thread, I also have emissions related maladies which are driving me crazy.

I don't believe it is a battery-voltage issue because my battery is brand new.
Also, and probably more importantly, while selecting menu item 4 (control element actuation), after engaging the parking brake, and cycling the ignition on/off/on, the starter cannot crank the engine. No click, no noise, no dimming of lights, nothing. I have to turn ignition back off, after which I can crank and start the engine - at this point though HHTwin displays and aborted message.

Many thanks for your help.

Hi TimeCapsule.
I got the parts to add to my mux to be able to install batteries into my C4 mux, (i haven't done it yet), but reading your post I think its something to do with the HHTwin software.
I have similar same issue as u do and its only happening on my C280 1995, it works fine on my S320 1997.

Many thanks for the prompt response. Your answer begs another question - has anyone successfully actuated elements on a very early LH car, say 93 600SL?
If so, how and what version of the software allows that?

I bought this one. Actually, I bought four of these one. So far no complaints, and my customers have no trouble either.
I'm trying to buy a C4 now but I'm having a hard time trying to figure out which system will support the cars from the 90s to now. The one that you bought in your link, does hht work on it? Is it able to access all the modules from your E55? Also what laptop are you using?

Hhtwin is software, and only works on x86 bit windows, and only up to xentry 2017 I think. Later revisions are x64 only and do not support hhtwin.

I just bought a 5th C4, same link as the quote, waiting for it to come.

I use two SSD with two separate software, one is 2014 and that one is for older cars. That one has working httwin. Other one has the latest xentry (03/2020 for now) and is for programming and modern cars.

I'm using E6420 and E6440.

Good thing about xdos xentry is that they are laptop agnostic, so you're not locked in a d630 like older XP xentry days.

Yes, that C4 works on all of my w210's. E55 is due to be dismantled tomorrow and then sent to the scrapper.

Do you know of a seller that has a C4 with the older 2017 xentry? I am mainly getting it for my car (02 E55) but I also want it to be capable of accessing the modules in the cars made before 2000 just in case I need to help a family member or friend.

It's confusing reading through listings on aliexpress because C4 sellers says it's for the 2000+ cars yet they also say it supports older cars like the W124, W140, etc.

Is there any reason why you can't ask that seller

for an older Xentry with HHTwin? They likely have an image of a Xentry with HHTwin installed on their computers, they can load it on the HDD or SSD and send it to you.

C4 works on all cars -- chinese seller quality notwithstanding, but the C4 is designed to work with 38-pin and OBD. I haven't had any success with the really older cars with the wacky cables....but those cars are likely mechanical.

It's the Xentry software that you want. You can either buy that C4 on its own, and then buy an HDD or SSD with hhtwin enabled. Or ask that seller to send you a Xentry with HHTwin enabled so you can use on older cars.

So I asked the seller that you listed and they said they can do it. It would be a 2019.12 version on 32 bit windows 7. Then I asked how I would order it with that software and they read the message but have not responded. I also asked if team viewer would be included on the older software and they read that message too but have not responded.

So I'm not sure if I should still get the C4 with the HDD included from that seller or get the HDD from another seller, but get the C4 from your link.

I see a seller called fly obd store that has the software with HHT but only 10 people ordered from him and there's only 3 reviews (5 star) for that seller. So I don't know if he can be trusted.

I also don't understand why everyone selling the latest software says that it's for 2000+ cars but lists the W124, 140, 202 etc as being supported

Link the flyobd store, I think I know him. I've used him before, he's good.

Teamviewer will be standard fare on all HDD copies, don't worry about that.

They would include it with the C4, you select the option. If you look, you'll see that the link I provided has three options...C4 by itself, C4 + HDD, C4 + SSD.

Then you put in the notes that you want HTTwin on the hdd, and then message the seller again.

I also don't understand why everyone selling the latest software says that it's for 2000+ cars but lists the W124, 140, 202 etc as being supported
It's the chinese being chinese, they copy literally everything they can and obfuscate facts if its not helpful. 124, 140 and 202 being supported is likely referenced to EPC, WIS, etc.

I admit, this is a rather dicey minefield, but like I said, buy from my seller and you'll get good unit. I just got the 5th C4 from that guy, I'll be testing it tomorrow.

What the sell as 2019 is actually 2016 or so all they do is change the startup screen to make at look newer guess it sells better.
You really need a 2016 version on win7/32 with hhtwin included will work with any c4 from ali.
