My exhaust system crapped out on me 2 days ago. So the car is extremely loud now. It appears the resonator and muffler have been replaced but the front pipe has not. The hole sounds like it's in the front pipe. So I have to get that fixed. The baby's in the shop right now! :(

Yeah once I learned of that, that's where I'd start too. I kinda hate having my car be so loud, now people are thinking 'what a piece of shit, that mercedes sound's like my kid's hyundai!' Then again I like making people mad! haha. My shop wanted some really high number for the exhaust parts, so I gave him a print out of german star's exhaust page for the 190D 2.2. He said 'whoa, I am going to talk to my guys and check this place out, we'll let you know'. I also am getting the passenger side motor mount replaced (I had him check it out for me while I was there) and he said that's the only one that's shaking. That will hopefully calm the rough idles I get from time to time. I still want to use some diesel purge.

What's a diesel purge? I've heard about it but...
Anyway, my dilemma is- order the shutoff valve solenoid from grmstr, or give it to the shop, have pinion gear seal fixed, and have them check whats wrong with the fuel shut off system, OR put in the AC compressor (in my garage). decisions, decisions...

I would see what they charge to do the trouble shoot for your shut off problem while they fix the pinion gear.

Diesel purge is a cleaner for your fuel system. You disconnect the fuel lines from the pump and you put them in a can of diesel purge. Start the car and run off of the diesel purge until the diesel purge is almost gone. Don't let the engine die, connect the fuel lines back up and dump the rest of the diesel purge in your tank. Purging the system is a good thing to do when you change the fuel filters.

That's the first I've heard that one. Benz would have done that when I doubled the cost of my car! Purging the system cleans it all out. Supposed to smooth rough idles, increase your mileage, increase performance, reduce smoking, and it should just make the engine just plain run better. I just have to figure out how hard it is to specifically purge the 190D 2.2. I guess it would be similar if not the same for the 602 and 603 engines. Our 601 is almost identical to the 602 and 603, just minus the 5th cylinder and turbo of the 603.
