Just registered today, My dad just got me a 98 E430 a few days ago as a replacement for a 2000 540i I totalled. Just wondering if theres any known issues with the car I should look out for

Also, Ive got a few questions

When I accelerate hard, why does my front end feel like its taking off into the clouds?

My passenger side window decides to go up sometimes, then return back to the halfway point. Why? Bad switch?

My console says "Lamp Defective", why? I dont see any lights that are out.

The light switch can be pulled out twice, I know the first time activates the foglamps, but what does the 2nd pull do?

Is the rear view mirror power controlled? If so, where is the switch for it?

Why do I get freezing cold air out of one vent, and the rest of the events feel like blow dryers? ( My 92 S class has this same issue )

Does it have rain sensing wipers? Cause when I put the wipers on the first setting, sometimes they'll go really slow when its not raining much, and other times they speed up to compensate for more rainfall

Is there a way to turn on the light from the rear seat?

What is up with this key thing? What happens when my battery goes dead? Can I still start the car?

Also, the front headlamps look goofy at night when you have xenons on the big ovals, and regular lamps elsewhere. I wanna put xenons in the fogs and the smaller ovals, what kind of bulb should I use, and is it easy to access and change?

And finally, my car has the alloy wheels ( Id assume 16 inch ) and they look okay and all, but what are some nice mercedes benz wheels of a larger size? ( Perhaps AMG wheels ) for a relatively okay price. I dont care if theyre not OEM, I just dont wanna drop too much into this car because its an "In-between" car until I find a 745i.

I would recommend the "search" button on the forum page. Most of this stuff has been covered many times in detail. The rest of it is in the owner's manual.

I don't think that converting other bulbs to xenon is covered, because it's essentially impossible.

Welcome, hope we could see some pics....I had teh same issue last night for the first time. it was wierd but I turn my engine off b4 closing windows so I assumed I didnt press the button all the way untill I just held the button all the way till it closed...

** if you've only pressed the UP switch one time and the window action
results in up and down motion, you probably have the notorious window
regular problem. replacement is a $200 or so (DIY job). yes, bad switch
also....so do thorough check of both

center brake light. check corner/fender lights. check high beam, reverse light,
and city light bulbs

for opening/closing door, window, roof

** MB rims use lug bolts, not lug nuts. there are different size bolts.....diameter,
length, and ball seat radius. when you select rim, you must determine if the
offset is sized properly for your car and....if you can find the correct bolt for it
to match your car.

I mean, the front end goes up and the rear end dips, in a very exxagerated fashion. More so than any other car Ive had. I guess benzes just have soft suspensions

yes it will go up all the way, then decide to come back down to about halfway. I can still get it up, 200 dollars isnt worth it to me. I just have to hold the button down and keep pressing.

Dont have the manual. but thats good, how does the battery charge? In my bimmer it charged everytime it was in the ignition.

hows it dangerous, they dont have to be real, its more a design thing then a practicality thing. the main xenon lamps will do the job

Yeah read the manual.

Since you have Xenons... you have rain sensing wipers... for the "goofy" looking city lights check out the "xenonmatch" bulbs at this site:
