Is it just me... or does anyone wish everybody else had those doors on their car? That way I'd never have to worry about door dings.

I wouldn't mind having it on my slk, usually use can open your door both ways (horizontally and vertically)
so you can open vertically if you really want to show off.

But paying for it and getting it installed, working all the issues out - i am not really interested in.

I agree. [:)]

I have to admit I think they are kinda cool looking though. I'd have to see them in person. There's a chance they would look too ricer or not fit right. Looks like there in S.F. so maybe I'll go up and check them out in person. I'll post pictures if I go.

They look to be just a hinge replacement so you should be using your regular doors and all. That's why they say no painting in the description.

They say "no drilling", but you DO have to drill them on... also, lots of cutting to remove the old hinges.

A bit misleading in that sense.

Oh, and there's already two companies that propose the kit for the R171. Inden and Fab. The Fab one might be better if it's like the SL wings which can be opened electronically and act like REAL lambo doors, not the ricer ones where you first need to open them ajar, and then push them up...

Say hello to FINGER PRINTS!!! [:D]

p.s. I think lambo doors like nice... no matter what car [;)] But I can't justify a $7000 install from Inden (dunno how much it will be from Fab... probably the same).

How can they not look too rice?

I agree about wishing others would get them so I did not have to worry so much about door dings?

Are you sure they open both ways? I now have a mental image of someone opening it vertivally then the door swinging out.

Our cars are so small that it would look retarded. also for being a pro car custom shop how can they make a lambo door hinge and not have pics yet. Am I the only one that finds this odd? However if the lambo doors were auto electric I think it would look bad ass to have the doors open along with the roof. Ive said it a million times TRANSFORMERS meets the eye in my garage. Id much rather do $7000.00 in mods to my engine and walk over lambo boy and steal and hump his g/f

Peace Out!

However, the first thing the chick will see, is the cosmetic changes. You need to outrun the lambo door guy in order to impress the chick...

Well... personally, if I was a chick. It wouldn't be the speed of the car that impresses me [;)]

I just received an email from the seller.

"We are located in SF, but our warehouse is located in IRVINE, CA.

All parts are made to order, we do not have one for you to see. Sorry.

Attached is a sample instructions manual, I hope that helps a bit.

Aeropartz"

It looks like you need to remove the front fenders and doors, replace the factory hinges and roll or cut the fender before you put it back on. Send me a message if you want the instructions.

Ok listen...I've seen this before. It's just a hinge. You do have to remove the fenders, front quarter panels, and you sometimes (like in this kit) you can use the original hinge holes, so no drilling. Thing is...they arent like lambo doors. They open outwards like a regular door, about a foot out, then you push the door up with the help of "high powered gas shocks." $1600 is a reasonable price though. Oh and you get to keep your doors, to whoever said no painting. [:)]

DA_SURG: oh, these ones bolt right onto the door hinges part? But do you still need to remove the hinge part on the door itself?

Shinigami,

You need to remove the front quarter panels and doors. You then replace the factory hinges with these hinges. You then need to roll or cut front quarter panel to make room for the new hinges and gas shock before you put them back on.

Send me a message if you want the instructions.

Yeah...these fake vertical door kits have potential to look cool when the doors are open, but their operation is just annoying. You really can't imitate lamborghini doors without spending a lot of money. Authentic lambo doors wouldn't even work on most cars because of how the doors fit into the shape of the car. It's kinda hard to explain, but if the door is coming from above, and you want it to be sealed, then the door has to be able to be "dropped" from above onto the body of the car and fit snuggly in. But on most cars, the doors come in sideways and there is roof right above the door. It's just too hard to do, so that's why these kits open out horizontally, and then push up.

Final verdict: get a lamborghini if you want the doors. But hey, we got the roof, they got the doors - it's all good [:D][:p]

Link to video of door operation: http://www.corvettespecialty.com/lambo%20door.htm Go there, at bottom of page is a link to a video. That is how all the VDC kits work. Enjoy.

It says no painting so therefore one color fits all.............
Gee those silver doors will look great on your red car, won't they.

Adrian
Sometimes I wonder how some people on these forums made enough money to buy a Merc. SO STUPID. They don't replace the doors you moron. It is a kit that changes the hinges! DERRRRRR
