The reservoir is on the

left front of the engine (remember that left/right are always from the viewpoint of the seated driver). It is all black plastic, not translucent as in many vehicles - a round (well, sorta) cap on top of a square reservoir.

Wally, that is what is confusing me. Arrows are pointing to the left side of the plastic air hose and i think mine is on the right side….oriented as you are looking at the engine from front

You have the abc suspension option on your s500 right ?

you will have two reservoirs on drivers side the large one is for abc the smaller one is power steering
Both reservoirs feed the same tandem pump

If you don’t have abc suspension then the power steering reservoir is the smaller square reservoir

Yes i have abc which was taken out in favor of coils and i think regarding the whole issue, that my power steering pump crapped out and is not getting any fluid to the rack. The way i’m attacking it is to do the pump and reservoir replacrment along with possibly the high pressure line(?) and if that fix is good then i should be ok. If not, and still grinding either way i turn wheel i have a new (reman) steering rack from pelicanparts.com….

Oh, OK, I get it now. Yeah, I'd replace that pump, and since you have a V8, I'd use the dedicated power steering pump instead of getting another ABC/power sterring hybrid pump. Eliminates the problem once and for all.

You need to Replace the pump with a s430 /s500 airmatic equipped power steering pump . Might not even need a rack .

If you get one used find one that has the reservoir attached to it . If you buy a new one it won’t have the reservoir with it . The reservoir is different and necessary with the steering pump for airmatic cars

I’ve heard of some S500 with ABC as an option. It’s a somewhat common option on the SL500 (R230, same vintage), so the pumps, etc, were available.

I think I've seen one S500 with ABC in a junkyard here in the States.

Never seen an S500 4Matic with ABC, though. Not even sure if it was an option. for 4Matic.

This must be a USA / UK anomaly ..................

I have seen many many many -

W220's, all had Air except V12 and 55K's

C215's, V12's and V8's every single one had ABC

R230's both 55k's and V8's every single one had ABC ......................

Dunno ;) ?

Not that unusual, ABC was definitely an option. I have seen some 220 with ABC. Regular 220. They're rare, since the ABC is a $5000 option, but some do select it.

ABC 4matic, never seen it. I'm sure they exist for later gen S, but all I've seen were rwd.

Yeah, here in the States, ABC was an option on any W220. All S55's and S600's over here came with ABC as a standard item.

Hey, we're crazy 'Murricans, we'll try anything! 😁

Do you have a link or part number where one can be ordered?
