On my 01 ML430, I found a small cover with the allen socket screw in the center, was leaking engine oil. This is on the front of the engine, driver's side. The O-ring that seals it to the block was hard and ineffective.
An interesting aside, this cover only leaks when the engine is running. I would like to replace the o-ring, does anyone know what this cover is called and what the part # would be for the o-ring. Also could a guy change this without draining the engine oil.

Thanks a bunch

It's a well known problem on ML. The part is known as "Timing Cover plate" The gasket needs to be replaced. There is an updated plate as well as the gasket. The gasket is really cheap. The timing cover is about 1"x2" in size. So, it's relatively a small part.
