I spent hours on the forum this evening doing searches on installing double Din aftermarket in place of Bose. Does anyone have a link that will provide complete instructions on doing this and the parts needed. When I spoke with Crutchfield they staed I would nned to pull head unit speakers, amp and start from scratch. I'm not going there.

Any helpful insight anyone can give would be awesome. Please no opinions, just good technical advice/directions. Thanks to all. You guys are awesome!!!

hey

i installed an aftermarket double din Cd DVD radio into my ml320 1999 and it works great the most your need to do is uninstall the head unit no need to disconnect the rest. Also make sure your battery is off for the whole process as the computer on the ML320 is very test i will take pics in the morning and send them to you.

hey

where do you live I spoke with my installer yesterday and told him of your dilema he said he would do the job for you. I called him because I also want him to set up my I-Pod Touch so i dont have to go thru the horrible fm stations.

He is certified in radio and component installs and if you tell him Luxury (my riding name) sent you he said he would take care of you. I also enclose a link of the set up I put in my car. I have to find my damn camera. My girlfriend is into taking life moment pics so she keeps running around with it.

If may not be name brand but I alway order from this seller and he has a no questions asked return for defect policy.

Here is the link
Innovatek IN-621TS 6.2 " Wide TOUCH SCREEN LCD Screen 2 DIN CAR DVD-RW/DIVX/AVI/MPEG/CD-RW/MP3 Player with GPS Compatibility

this is a sweet one I was also looking at:

MP3PlayerStore.com: INNOVATEK IN-5300BTVI All-In-One Bluetooth Touch Screen Motorized 5" TFT LCD Detacheble Front Panel

Also feel free to ask him about speaker upgrades, PS2 and 3 in the car and televisions in the headrest.

Dont buy Innovatek !!! Especially from mp3playerstore dot com
I know they make fancy looking and inexpensive stereos,but...
I had 2 Innovatek DVD players from them and first of all they located in Canada,so shipping will take long (and not cheap ),my first Innovatek DVD player i had to sent back because it stop working after 2 weeks(they didn't replace it with new unit-the repair the one i sent to them).4 weeks after same story-so i decided to upgrade to another model .
Second DVD player work for about 1 year almost without problems (power off on its own, background noice sometimes, flickering screen -nothing really bad ).
This was my first(and last) experience with cheap headunits - After that i told myself-no more cheap stereos.

you do not have to change any thing. get a print out of the head unit harnrss from wolf gangs web sit. then follow the instructions from your after market unit to hook up power and speaker connections. you have to connect the power anntenna wire from the after market unit to the amp.trigger wire on the stock harness and all speakers will work.

Instructions

I would love it if someone had instructions. There are so many different posts etc. If someone would simplify for me and provided instructions, that would be awesome.

I still need help. I appreciate the link you provided but it really doesn't address my issue. I would love to have someone that has actually done this mod themselves give me some guidance. I think after wading through I may be getting somewhere. I see pinouts from the head unit which is what kwiklee has provided but that is not my issue. I need the pin out going from the amp to the speakers. Can I merely wire from the headunit to the speaker wire at the output side of the amp? If so has anyone done this and how did you make a harness? What is being used for the harness at the headunit? I need power ground etc. Please someone who has actual done this provide some help. You guys have always come to my rescue in the past, I know there is someone out there that can provide these answers or guide me to something in a previous post. Thanks again!!!!

Amp not connecting

Jacqui78
Did you get your pioneer unit to work with the factory Bose amp?
I am trying to install a Pioneer FH-X720BT with
Metra 70-1786 wiring Harness, and and Metra 40-VW12 Antenna adapter.

Every thing seems to be okay, except the amp is not turning on. When I turn the volume to maximum on the HU, I can barely hear any sound out of the speakers. The blue/white wire from the HU is connected to the wire harness Blue/white. This is supposed to be the trigger for the amp.
Verified the amp and wiring on the truck are okay by re-connecting the original MCS.
Do you know if I need to make any additional modifications?
Could the speed sensing volume control be interfering with the connection?
Any help much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.
Firstly, are you 100% sure you have a non Fibre Optic amp?
Depending on you answer the solutions will be different.....

Thanks Art!

My old MCS unit model number is RA4910 (A163 820 04 86). Based on what I've read on BenzWorld, 2000 ML320 did not have fiber optic. Is it verifiable by looking at the connectors or MCS?

MCS will have FO connection to the CD shuttle, the question is if your amp has one....... MY 2000 amps some have & some not FO.
That's what a FO bose amp looks like. The small connector under the big one is the FO connector.
Lets hope its a non FO. Have a look at the PDF & make sure all the connections are correct.

Just look at the Connector B that goes into the back of the MCS. If have wires (8) then it's non-FO. If less than 1-2 wires, it's FO (along with the actual FO plug).

Thanks Mike, CGL,

The connector B has 8 wires and no 1/2 connectors for FO on the back of the MCS. I am trying to avoid going up behind the dash to the amp.

Art,
Thanks for the wiring schematic. Is it for a unit without the FO? I'll try to match them up this evening.

The Metra 70-1786 wiring harness has the four RCA plugs for the speakers, plus 5 for additional (pwr with ignition, pwr w/o ignition, ground, dimmer, and external amp/antenna). There are 3 slots left empty. Do any of these need to be grounded or directed otherwise?
