Help: What % Window Tint

4542 Views 37 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  lowlow
I am thinking about window tint on my sedan and would like to get the same tint all around. I am leaning towards 22% Solar gaurd all around except the windshield. A huge concern of mine is night vision.

Can you guys post the quality of night vision, the brand of tint you used, the percentages in the windows, and most importantly pics. Thanks

I've used the range, not sure of brands...
and I'd suggest staying with 35/65 if night vision is any part of your consideration.

It looks great and if your state permits 35 all around, good on you. I have to strip my front windows occasionally to pass inspection.
35% front and rear is the best. That's how I have it on the 190 and the 320.
35% is the darkest I'd use. Works great during the day and still maintains decent night vision.
Keep it within the legal limits. Seeing out at night, especially backing up, is just as important as seeing in the daytime. Plus, no hassle from the authorities. Drug dealer dark "looks" cool but in reality isn't very practical.

Good Luck with your choice

Thanks for the good advice. My problem is that I see a lot of 35% tint and it seems like there is barely any tint on the window at all. My vision is great, so I guess I am just looking for reassurance that 22% still has acceptable night vision and guarantees my privacy. I am not concerned with tint laws.

If you arent concerned about state tint laws, then I'd suggest you get in some cars with various levels of tint at different times (including night) so you can gauge for yourself what you think would be best for you.

Those of us who are concerned about state laws will adhere to what the state requires in order to prevent getting stopped unnecessarily and hassled by the man for a victimless "crime."

Where I live its NO tint on the front windows. Those of us who do have tint on them and play smart (roll down all your windows so the officer can see clearly into the vehicle, turn off the car, hands on the steering etc) don't get hassled that much for trivial stuff like tint. Although that might change with the state budgets being so strapped for cash.
Go 20% all around. I've got it on the back of my car (which is the legal limit here) and it is great. I'd like a little darker, but I'm not getting a ticket. You can easily see through 20 at night.

Thank you. That is what I really wanted to hear. Can you guys post pictures please of your tinted W124's

Rather than asking us to do all the leg work for you, go to a reputable tint installer. They have all the varieties of what they sell mounted on glass so you can see for yourself. Do the leg work, do your home work, make your own decisions.

Jayare, isn't the point of this forum to discuss car topics and get opinions and advice? I asked about tint because I wanted opinions and advice and value the input of others. If you don't like me asking then take your old cranky ass somewhere else.

FYI: Most of the problems stated in this forum can be resolved by going to a mercedes benz dealership so under your logic, no one really needs to post to this forum.

Yes, the point of this forum is to discuss and resolve problems that many of us encounter owing older cars. My point to you was simple. You don't have a problem, you are asking opinions and several were given. Then you ask for all of us that took the time to offer suggestions to go even further and provide you with pictures of what "our" choices were in regard to tint.

My suggestion to you was not based on "my old cranky ass". It was mearly intented for you to do some leg work as I suggested. You have no idea what it cost to maintain one of these cars by taking it to the dealer. That's another purpose of the forum. Keeping these cars running as they were intended and not having to pay insane prices to do so.

Be careful what you ask for and don't start name calling. It's a bad habit and isn't the nature or the intent of this or many other forums.

Good Luck with you choices

Anyway, pettiness aside, thank you everyone that responded. All your responses helped me out and i'm sure they helped a good portion of the 110 people who have viewed this thread. I am going to start another thread entitled show me your tints, in hope of attracting more traffic and pics.

Wow, 63 posts and you've called one of the most helpful posters on these message boards...petty. :( His post was optimal advice, tint is pure personal taste, why not choose based on seeing the different levels first hand?

Also, try the search function, as tint has been discussed (including pictures) for years here. You can find the images you want faster (as in right now) rather than waiting for pics to appear on this thread.

Everything Jayare said was flat out right, you should reread his posts being aware he is one of the most helpful posters on these boards, I am not sure, but you may be his first feud. :)

1st: Not all tint shops have all of their available tint on sample glass.

2nd: Seeing tint on one individual glass pane is a lot different than seeing a completed car, as you should know. A small sample of tinted glass does not give the whole story. It doesn't tell you how the cabin feels with all windows tinted or visual clarity at night. I would like to know what it is like to live with different shades of tint on the car, and looking at a sample will not tell me that.

If you didn't understand before, hopefully you do now.

FYI: I'm not trying to pick a fight with anyone. I'm just surprised that when I ask for opinions I get rude comments from "old cranky ass" dudes.
Again, try the search function and you can look at examples of these cars with assorted tints right now if that is what you want.

Or, just wait around, insult folks who offer help, call them cranky, petty, old, etc. Hopefully loads of posters will line up to get you the new pictures of their cars and tint you want. Good luck w that.

Oh, and GO HEELS!!

Ok, let's keep the tone civil and respectful. I don't want to give anyone an involuntary timeout.

1st: Then you ought to take your business to a shop that does.

2nd: Right, so pictures of cars on the internet are better?

3rd: Jayare is a helpful guy. When you come on here and drop "old cranky ass" on someone like that, you sound like you should be on Facebook and not this site.

Good luck to you.

Signed, an old cranky ass.

FYI: I have a facebook account, and I can maintain an erection.
