Depends on how much you are willing to spend.....

If $$ is not a problem, go for 1998/1999 W140s as they are fairly new, and shouldn't have any problem at all. And with factory warranty, of course.<p>Avoid 1992-1994 models as they have quite a bit of problem such as, Evap Core, Close Assist Pump, Water Pump and couple others.<p>1995-1996 W140s have the best quality material used in interior IMO, however, MY1996 W140s have problem with electronic 5-speed tranny(it's the first year that MB put 5-speed tranny on models other then 3.2L).<p>If you want detail changed, go to Mercedesshop and do a Search on W140<p>Here are couple Posts I(AKRY) have put on Mercedesshop before....little info there....<p>http://www.mercedesshop.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/005414.html<p>http://www.mercedesshop.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/004705.html<p>Hope this helps,<p>Andy Kuo<br>aka AKRY

The earlier W140s had the better quality material. Over 1700 parts (some small some large) have been replaced in the facelifted ones. However the facelifted ones are said to be more reliable.. IMO if it's all about the owner, I had a 97' that looked like a brand new car literally inside and out, but I soon found out the car had several thousand dollars worth of repair needed. Mercedes-Benz didn't even know what was wrong with it half the time I took it to them and they're supposed to be the experts. My next W140 will be a pre facelift for sure since I've had a bad experience with the post facelift.
