I just bought a '87 190d turbo. I want to change the auto transmission filter, i have been reading some threads and it does not sound to hard. Are there any tutorials on how to do it? Also how or when should i do the flex disks? And how much trans fluid should go in it when i change the filter. - thanks, ben.

This thread covers more than simply the tranny fluid/filter change, but it has pics and so might be helpful. Simply disregard the K-1 spring related stuff. The important thing is to drain all the fluid by rotating the engine in order to drain the torque converter and draining it. This thread has pictures about that which is especially helpful. Note that the thread recommends a specific direction for the engine to be rotated ("rotate clockwise when facing the engine").

Consult the manual for your car regarding fluid capacities. There are also manuals online linked in this forum. Go to the Read First FAQ for the link to them.

Ben:congratulations on your purchase of an excellent variant of the W201 car. You will need about 7 litres of ATF.
