hey guys my cars tranny has been acting wierd.
i have only had the car for about 4 months and the last few weeks it has been shifting harder when its cold and acting strange like down shifting hard when cold but it seems to act better when it warms up fully( not engine temp but tranny temp) and about a few days ago i was geting on the on ramp to the hwy and gave gas then i had to sudenly let off then the car shifted really hard. im not geting any errors or any thing. i read on here about coolant geting in the tranny on the 03 e500's and from what i read the dealer will replace the radiator and flush out the tranny.
i have an aftermarket chrysler warranty that covers almost every thing.
whatshould i do? i can make an appointment to the dealer and drop it off and they will give me a loaner to drive(clostest dealer is about 60-65 miles away.
so what should i do?

How many miles on the car?

Has the transmission filter and oil been changed? If should be done every 25,000 miles inspite of the 100,000 miles service interval!

Check out that coolant leak idea...

Also there was a problem with the electrical connector plug in the front of the tranny having a leaky O-ring that allowed tranny fluid to leech down the cable harness and up to the TCU unit; eventually the tranny fluid will fill up the TCU and short it out. So have that checked out as well.

Maybe there is a vacuum leak causing the hard shifting?

Does your extended warranty cover the transmission and TCU?

Let us know what the dealer diagnosed?

Good Luck

Take a fluid sample and see if coolant is in the fluid. This will also tell you the condition of your fluid and it is highly likely it is way over due for replacement.

The first fluid and filter change should be done at 39,000 miles, however as already mentioned changing it at the second scheduled service is highly recomended.

What's the build date of your car? I remember the TSB about this problem mentioned that cars with a build date 9/03+ didn't have the problem. The coolant leakage was due to faulty Valeo radiators that were used in the earlier builds. Since my 03 E320 was built in 1/03, I had a fluid analysis done (like driviwire recommends) a long time ago when I heard about the problem -- luckily, the report came back with negative findings. The fluid analysis is about $25 and can be done by many fluid analysis labs.

DTB P-B-27.55/50g MAR08 dealer will perform a glycol test (if vehicle produced before 9/03) – contamination usually associated humming/buzzing/droning noises during light acceleration. In addition, they will check the torque converter for mechanical malfunction and software update – usually associated with harsh engagement.

P-B-27.20/78 AUG06 jolt at constant speeds or during gentle acceleration when torque converter clutch is applied and mileage is > 40,000 the dealer will verify there is no glycol in ATF; check the torque converter clutch; drain and replace the ATF with new filter.

Mention these bulletins to the dealer. Note each DTB carries MB warranty codes therefore; your extended warranty should cover the repair if transmission coverage is included in the policy.

car has 70k on it. my exstended warranty covers my tranny so i think ill be ok. i think its geting a little worst because i went to a cousins bday and the car was driven about 45-50 miles and was fully warm and it did it twice.like i had to let off sudenly and it hit kind of hard.when i floor it and let it go to red line and shift it self and it acts perfect but it had been shifting a little harder than when i first got it.
